Hey Ladies!

My baby boy always is twirling his feet! Since he was a few months old...he's 8.5 months now.
Anyone else? It's hilarious but odd too.
He does it when he's happy, frustrated, stimulated by toys, eating. A lot!!!
He used to do his hands too but not anymore.

B.

Do you mean like extending his leg and rotating his ankle around in a circle?

Mine went through stages of doing this. She used to do it with her wrists too, once she realised that she could. I think it's just something interesting to do, and helps them get used to the range of motion of these very functional parts of their bodies, as well as strengthen them up.

Or do you mean like rubbing his feet together? Mine did this too.

She walked at 12 months, and is very proficient and flexible, so maybe all that ankle action worked for her lol.

thanks for the reply! Yes - he extends his legs and rotates his feet at the ankles! He used to do hands as well when he was little. He's stopped that for the most part. It jsut seems like people have never seen this behavior before and I thought it was very common. Doesn't seem so. And of course once you start to google all this info about Autism comes up :( Ugh.
It's good to hear there are other's out there too and it's just a phase.
He doesn't rub his feet together, no. Just the straitening of legs and the feet go like propellers. And he doesn't do it when he's relaxed. It's when he's being stimulated. Whether at meals, playing, etc...

I think it's probably nothing to worry about. Mine scratches her ankles a lot when she's feeling shy, or concentrating, especially on eating. A lot of babies have methods of self-soothing or self-stimulating, without having autism. He probably enjoys the sensation, in the same way an excited child might jump up and down - only he can't do that yet, lol. If he's been doing it for ages, it would be very, very early for a definite symptom of autism to show.

LO did definitely twirl her feet - probably not as much as your LO, granted, but enough for me to remember it. She's 14 months now and displays no symptoms of autism whatsoever, though she has started randomly bursting out laughing for the last two days, so I'm trying not to Google it! It never ends well! She used to do this awful thing where she would shake her head from side to side really fast and I freaked myself out on Google that she was having seizures (turns out she was just teething and does it every time she cuts a tooth!). I'm sure your little man is fine. :)

My sister's little girl did this, especially with her wrists. She'll be 3 at the end of November and she's so, so smart. She's been talking in sentences since before 2. She's counting and knows the alphabet. She figured out 1 + 1 = 2 on her own last spring by looking at her fingers! She's pretty much a genius! Haha!

I wouldn't worry at all. :)

Thank you ladies!!!!
Yeah Dr. Google is the devil ;)

Both of my LOs have done this! I think it's so cute! My eldest little girl did it lots and I don't really know when she grew out of it but definitely before she was one. Now the baby does it when she's happy or excited too- and lots in the pushchair! I love it :)

Edited to add: my DD is definitely not autistic either- she's very articulate and bright and extremely sociable- don't google!
