Hello! I am new to this forum and have been TTC for three years with a few breaks along the way. I have recently began seeing a fertility specialist. I was referred to a specialist in September of 2019, which is when I began testing to find the cause of my infertility. I had a TVUS and it determined that everything was normal, except that my ovaries weren't producing enough quality eggs naturally for my age (25 at the time.) I have always had irregular cycles. I would go 3-6 months without AF at times, and I know this contributed to my fertility issues. My doctor soon determined that I was not ovulating on my own all the time so the 1st step was to get my cycles more regular.
I began taking Femera (Letrozole) 2.5 mg on CD 3-7. This helped my cycle become regular (between 28-31 days) after two months. I began coming in to the office once a month for ultrasounds to check the size + quantity of my eggs, my uterine lining, and to see if I was approaching ov. We did 3 cycles of timed intercourse with ovulation checks + trigger shot injections. Then, COVID happened and I was unable to seek treatment in April/May so we just tried on our own without the meds.
June finally came around and I was SOOO excited to be able to resume fertility treatments. After 3 months of TTC with letrozole + trigger shot and timed intercourse, I was ready for a new course of action. My doctor suggested that I take 3 letrozole tablets instead of just 1-2 as in previous cycles. I ended up with FOUR mature eggs that cycle so I had to cancel the treatments due to the risk of higher order multiples.
My doctor suggested that we try a different course of medicine to try to not overstimulate my ovaries again. She stated I may have a mild form of PCOS but bloodwork does not prove this, and the only symptom I have is irregular cycles. She says the way I respond to meds suggests this.. who knows...
Anyways, my current cycle I tried 1 tablet (2.5 mg) of letrozole, along with Follistim injections for 5 days.
My husband and I had decided that this time we would move on to trying IUI. I had my IUI procedure done on July 9th and I am currently 7dpo. One more week left of the TWW.
Anyone have success with follistem + letrozole & trigger shot? How did you get through the 2ww after an IUI? This has been the hardest wait so far
but I know that our sweet baby will be worth the wait.
