I see a lot of threads about gestational diabetes but I have Type 2 Diabetes. Was diagnosed a couple years ago.

Just wondering if there are any other ladies who had pre-existing diabetes before pregnancy and how it affected your pregnancy and labor and delivery? If you were on oral meds, did you eventually have to go on insulin?

I'm currently on oral medication and its ok, seems to be working but I have had some spikes. Had to make lots of changes to my diet. Need to exericse more though.

If anyone want to share how they are coping during their pregnancy I would appreciate it!

Hey- I was diagnosed with type 2 when I was six weeks pregnant. While I was not surprised it has been hard. I am currently on a low dose of glybyride and taken off my metformin as of Jan. 1.

Sorry I cannot answer your question but I am curious too.

Thanks for responding. I am also on glyburide and was hoping to increase it to twice a day but I've had some episodes of hypoglycemia so my Dr is reluctant to change my dose.

I've feeling frusterated because he wants me to decrease my carbs to avoid the spikes but I"m losing weight. When I was pregnant with my son 10 years ago, I had gestational diabetes and went to see a diabetic education counselor who told me how to eat and put me on a strict diet. Well I lost weight on that diet so they upped my carb intake.

Not sure why they don't do that this time around. I suppose he isn't concerned about my weight loss. I have only lost about 2 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight so I guess it's ok. I just hope my baby is growing ok. My uterus seems to be right on course if not a little bigger so I guess that means baby is ok.

Yea it has me doing hypoglycemic episodes as well. I take half a pill with every meal and that seems to be okay. My carbs are suppose to be about 150 do I try to break it up which helps.

I had my 12 week ultrasound a week ago and everything was the right size. I am more worried about what I did before I knew I was pregnant or diabetic for those three weeks where my blood sugar was averaging 180+.

I have lost 12 lbs buy nobody is concerned. I have been trying yo eat more and avoid grain which lead to spikes for me. So hopefully everything is okay.

I suppose every case is different, regarding weight loss. At my first OB appt my Dr stressed how he did not want me to lose weight but preferably maintain my weight and now that i'm losing I thought he would try to have my diet adjusted. But I guess not...

I was wanting to take the glyburide twice a day. Right now I take 2.5mg once a day. Even if they lowered it to half a pill in the morning and half in the afternoon, I might be ok. I may try that on my own since it's just the same dose just spread out a little.

What's frusterating is that I've been doing a lot of experimenting with food/medicine, how many times a day I eat, etc.

One day I ate 1 cup of mashed potatoes with dinner. My blood sugar levels 1 hour after eating was normal and healthy.

The following week, I had the SAME amount of potatotes and it went sky high! :growlmad:

Also, I have to avoid eating cereal or anything with carbs in it for breakfast because It puts me in the 150-170 range at the hour mark.

So I've been eating scrambled eggs with sausage, cheese and spinach which works pretty well.

The other day, we didn't have any eggs so I decided to have 1 slice of Sugar free lemon pound cake which contained 16 grams of carbs. At the one hour mark my blood sugar level was 175 or something ridiculous like that.

I just get so irritated and sometimes depressed thinking I'll never be able to get my numbers down enough. I don't know at what point and for how long having high glucose levels effect the baby. :nope:

That's exactly some of the stuff I deal with. I try a high protein breakfast with berries or a kiwi because otherwise I am over at the 1 hour mark. Hopefully I get a little more control now that the holidays and temptations are gone.
