Hey guys-
Recently I posted something about having a cat while being pregnant, but I've got a few other questions. You may call me a hypochondriac, but I just am sooo worried about catching something and it harming my baby. I recently found out that while our cats were at my parent's house, one of the cat's got outside for a couple of days. The cat was fine, but now since we have taken him back and learned about this, it has me worried. My DH is out of town and I had to clean the litter box today. I didn't have gloves around, but I made sure to keep my hands away and just scooped the litter into a bag and immediately washed my hands (3 times..haha). I will never have to do it again, DH was just out of town for the last couple of days. Should I be worried? Is there anything that can please calm my mind? I feel like I'm going crazy here. Ha. Thanks everyone.

:hugs:

Don't worry the chances of you contacting anything is slim to none. As long as you washed your hands its fine. I don't know what else to say to get you to stop worrying but I'm pretty sure you're ok :hugs:

It's quite rare to catch toxoplasmosis to begin with [I think it's 1:1000 chance], and since your cats are primarily indoor [even though they got out], I wouldn't worry. You washed your hands and kept out of contact with the feces, so you're most definitely in the clear. If you want to keep your mind at ease, buy some long gloves and keep antibacterial soap/gel near by. You can also go to the lab and they can do blood tests to see if you've ever come in contact with it. If you have ever come in contact with it before, you're immune to it now. Don't stress too much, I'm quite sure you're alright. Just make sure you wear gloves and wash your hands directly afterwards :)

Thanks guys! I feel much better about it....I think it is something about these hormones that are just making me worry all the time and get upset. My DH thinks I'm losing my mind....haha! Thanks again for the encouraging words!

 it happens to most of us I think. Earlier in my pregnancy I was worried about EVERYTHING under the sun. Since then I've learned not to stress and that bubs will still be fine so long as I take precautions. Enjoy this part of your pregnancy :)

the chances of getting it are very rare, and u basically need to eat the poo for it to happen! if you have had your cats a while, you will probably be immune.
