UK - bottles that keep their markings?

After some suggestions here for bottles for the bump.

We currently use Avent traditional-style (not the new natural ones) ones with our 7 month old, have done from birth - they work well enough (although the teat that claims to act like a mum's nipple continues to disturb me - if I had ones THAT long I'd be using them as coat hooks to hang my jacket).

While our small size ones are still in decent enough condition to be re-used with new teats bought - the larger 9oz ones will have had their day by then - the markings are pretty much shot to hell on them, and it's a regular task with a marker pen to redraw the lines for the amounts we're using on. Then again - rebuying teats for the 6 bottles we have is going to be pushing £15 per stage - and Avent are 4 different teat stages... so is it going to be worth buying all-new anyway - especially since you can get 2 teeny and 2 normal sized ones for £9 at the moment on Kiddicare, and two of the larger sized bottles on their own are £11 (plus they only have pink and blue in of the clear ones that don't need the colic ring... don't get me started on the topic of pink and blue being the ONLY colours baby stuff comes in...) basically looking at it- trying to be moneysaving by reusing the newborn sized ones isn't looking like being moneysaving at all really.

So I have the option to buy into a new bottle and teat system potentially - anyone any brainwaves for bottles that:
a) aren't going to end up with the markings rubbing/scratching/wearing off
b) if they come in colours and designs - isn't just bright pink princesses for girls and blue diggers and dinosaurs for boys (personal pet hate)
c) relatively dippy-grandmother proof in terms of putting bottles together (the colic rings in the Avent bottles continue to baffle my mother - as does the fact some of ours need them and some of ours don't)
d) I just have an irrational hatred of the tommy tipee ones (and that ridiculous company name) - but I can move past that if I have to.

Fitting into a steriliser isn't a massive problem since we cold-water sterilise anyway.

Heya.

These are the bottles we use/used with DD2 from 2 weeks old.
They are the regular MAM bottles (not the ones with the bottom that unscrews).

You can also get them from Toys r us.

They exactly match your needs to the letter. They come with 2m+ teats so you would need to by newborn ones seperate if you use them from birth.
They do have an anti-colic valve in the teat, but they may need a few washes and sterilises first before they become more flexible and effective.

Window-shopping trip at the weekend methinks! Really cheesed off with losing half the markings on our current bottles so fast - grrr!

Ok so I have no advice. Just wanted to add that this thread made me laugh a lot.
(although the teat that claims to act like a mum's nipple continues to disturb me - if I had ones THAT long I'd be using them as coat hooks to hang my jacket).

I cracked up at that one. But I am kinda concerned. How hard are you scrubbing those bottles that all of the markings have come off. I am reusing my playtex ones for a second baby and having no problems at all. I would recommend dr browns as the markings dont come off but only for that reason. Thought they were crap for gas.

I use Avent too but for money saving-ness, I also have Boots own brand bottles for the change bag and they are fine. I assume you're probably using the dishwasher if all the numbers are coming off because we're nowhere near that.

Off topic but you must have an easier baby than mine to be expecting again already... congratulations!

We cold-water sterilise (the microwave one wouldn't fit IN the microwave) so that explains a good part of the bottle wear (and no I don't scrub like a lunatic at the OUTSIDE of the bottles)!

And yeah I got lucky with number 1 - a very very placid easy-going baby! Put food and milk in and she'll just giggle and blow raspberries all day quite happily.

Have bought some MAM ones to try this time around see how they weather with use.

I just saw this thread and it has me LOLing too! The nipple part - that's one thing that often went through my mind as particularly the Nuk brand have all over the packages how the teat is "just like mother's nipple". It had me stumped as I'm pretty sure no nipples are that shape or size but I guess I kind of accepted it and never went too deep into thought about it.
The blue and pink thing drives me crazy as well! We started off on MAM bottles but switched for various reasons but overall can't complain too much about them. If we'd known they also sell bottles without the removable bottom we probably would have gotten those instead but we'd already switched. Anyway, we got the gender neutral green ones. They tend to be very pink/blue reserved but at least green is in the mix as well. :)
Have you considered trying glass bottles, by any chance? That's what I believe we'll be doing for our second. Nuk sells some in various colors and patterns. More durable than plastic ones + easier to clean so I'm thinking they're going to last longer.

Glass bottles with my husband (a man who can end up in A+E loading the washing machine) - not a good plan!

dont get the tommee tippee bottles. we have them and the oz markings have started coming off. instead of using a black marker to draw the line, i used a blade and scraped a line were the marks have come off.

crap bottles, id never buy them again. apart from the lines coming off, i have to tip los head way back to get the last few ozs into him. and this is impossible now as he wants to sit up to drink.

i switched to the playtex ventaire angled bottles and theyre great, but havent had them long enough for the oz marks to get rubbed off.

also want to agree with you on the pink for girls or blue for boys bottles. so annoying!
i prefer unisex colours. the playtex ones i got come in yellow green and white which is much nicer.

Im a sucker for the coloured bottles! We are using the pink TTCTN this time round. We used/use these MAM ones with DD2. Just took off the handles and swapped the spouts for teats. xxx

OK I have to ask how did he end up in A+E loading a washing machine??? That really is taking the attitude of 'if I do the housework really badly I won't be asked to do it again' to new levels!!!!! :winkwink:

He managed to slice the very very tip of his finger end off by putting it into the bit where the door catch is. Quite WHY he was putting his finger in there I've not yet got a straight answer to.

The A+E receptionist nearly wet herself laughing when we rocked up and told her what he'd done as well!

We don't baby-proof this house, we husband-proof it - he's really insanely tall, arms and legs everywhere and a walking accident zone.

Gosh, and I thought I was clumsy!! That really is quite special! I'll never look at my washing machine door in the same light again...

I love my tommee tippee bottles! None of mine have discoloured or the markings have cons off.

I think it depends how you sterilise. I use the tommee tipee electric steriliser less than 2 mins and the bottles are sterilised !

I am in the USA but I found Born Free, my LO really likes them and they just have the bottle, a vent ring and a nipple, and the markings have held up. She has really bad reflux and colic and these bottles have helped a TON!

LOL'ing over the nipples...I can't imagine if my nipple looked like one of those plastic ones. Although, seeing my nipple stretched out in the hospital grade pump traumatized me!

And Dizz, congrats! I can't even get a chance to have sex, LOL
