For all the uk girls out there, going to make first docs appointment next week as been TTC for well over a year. Had work stress alot over the last 2years so given it till now as we gave ourselves a month off now and again but been over a year now. Used CBFM etc and everything regualr, as you can tell peaks etc but nothing. I am not someone who goes to the doctors regular so a bit scared by it all. What happend / what was said when you went for first appoint, and what happened next?

I haven't been to the GP yet, but I just wanted to wish you luck! x

Ok I know all about this as took me 7 years to TTC number 2! So first doc might ask about your periods and if regular. Helps if you know how many days your cycle is. Then doc might suggest your partner has sperm tested to check on motality etc. He needs to get it to pathology lab quickly so they can check the little boys under the microscope. I know this as I work there lol! Then you will be referred to gynae consultant at hospital. I had also done ovulation charts by this point as took 2 years to refer me as I already had a baby when I was young. Next tests on you. Blood tests on your hormone levels. I also had dye put through my Fallopian tubes to check if blockages. Didn't hurt don't worry. Also had little op to check if everything ok physically. I was then offered clomid the fertility drug as was told wasn't ovulating. Never took it as it was 18 months to this point and I decided to give up. 5 years later finally pregnant naturally. Hope this helps. With any luck it might be something really simple for you x x good luck

hey honey, when i first spoke to the doctor about it the first thing she done was to run blood tests to check that all the hormones etc are as they should be. When they came back clear she then sent me for an ultrasound to check for PCOS, sonographer said that looked clear but I haven't been to doctors yet to speak to her since having it done. Not sure where it will go from here. i'd suspect your doctor will want to send you for blood initially. Good luck :hugs:

And you shouldn't worry. They take it seriously if you have bend TTC for a year and the good thing is with the nhs is that you have lots of options. I just found the waiting times between the appts frustrating x

It depends on your age and how long ttc as to whether they will do much. Just a warning- it's different rules in different areas around uk. Where I live you have to be ttc for 2 years before they do anything! (unless you over 35 I think??)
if they are gonna do something it will be bloods for u first and possibly sa for your partner, That obviously won't happen on the day you will have to make a separate appointment for that, the go back for results etc etc, it does take a long time.

Thanks girls,(forgot to add i am 30, 31 in May this year, we are in NorthWales)
thats great to know a little more about what happened for you! will try and call monday to make appoint! bit scared about it all but hopefully be worth it if we get a baba at the end!

well i finally had my first docs appointment. Didnt really ask much, just if i had every been pregnant before (no) or has husband got any children (no) and refered me for blood tests at hospital. Have to go on day 21 so have a few weeks to wait now as on 23 of my cycle now so have to wait for next one. i then need to book a docs appointment for a week later to go over results

he asked if husband was at the same docs, which he isnt but didnt say if husband should go to get his swimmers checked. I got the impression if he was then he would have requested tests for him, do you think i should send hubby to docs to get tests sorted in the meantime? or wait for mine to come back?

Bloods
Ultrasound
Ov test

Im on my Ov test which i can do until i start my period, have to have bloods taken on days 3 and 21 of my cycle.

After I had the ultrasound results she then suggested my partner had a sperm analysis.
I think they wait for the womans results before asking the man to go for a sperm analysis because you know what men are like. lol x

it depends how old you are, but i was 20 when i first went to the doctors, and they refered me to the hospital for tests to see what was wrong (pcos) just take it as it comes, they will probably ask your boyfriend/husband for a sperm test as it could be him also good luck
