Had an appointment with our GP today to review my DH's 2nd SA results to be told that we have been referred to a fertility clinic for IVF treatment. We've been told that we should have a referral within 18 weeks but am just interested to know how long people's referrals took to come through roughly and how long was it from referral to starting treatment approximately?

Thanks in advance. It's all a little overwhelming and scary atm (but am oddly excited too. After all this waiting we may finally be getting somewhere after been trying on and off since 2012!)

I think it really depends on where you are and the waiting list at your particular clinic. The clinic we chose didn't have a waiting but some of the others our hospital refer to have a waiting list of around a year.

We were referred around Aug/Sept time, had our consultation in the November and started our first round of treatment in the Feb. We could've started it sooner but I had to take medication to regulate my cycles first.

ETA; just reread your post, obviously things may be different for IVF - but this was my experience of our fertility clinic. Hope everything moves quickly for you!

I think the waiting time was around 3 months for me, and then further testing took another 3 months. I had already had an US to confirm PCOS beforehand, but had a HyCoSy that they mis scheduled the first time, so had to wait another month. After the HyCoSy (and my DH's sperm analysis, which the waiting times are now 5 months) we were prescribed clomid. So referral > treatment was 6 months.

I was referred for tests at the gynaecologist clinic (who was also the fertility specialist) at my local hospital in the October. Found out we needed IVF due to blocked Fallopian tubes in the March and then was seen within 8/10 weeks within the fertility clinic around Easter May time. From there we started IVF in the July

Thanks! And congrats I can see your LO is due this month!

I'm just getting anxious for that first appointment now. Had the letter to say we are on the waiting list to see the consultant at the clinic so I know we're in the process I just need to be patient. Wouldn't mind when the appointment is or how long away I just want a date to appease the planner in me!
