Hey ladies,

I was wondering whether any of you knew of a good private clinic/antenatal doc around the Gloucestershire area, and how can I go about finding one? Do I have to get a referral from my GP first?

I'm 15w4d today, conceived when I was in Greece (my country of origin), and stayed there until I reached 15w2d. Baby's fine, but at 13w3d I had to have a cervical cerclage as my cervix had a small opening.

I plan to have all my major tests and give birth there, with my family and doctor, but I am very nervous in the meantime and would like to be able to see and consult a private doc when I worry. NHS is brilliant, but I'm a bit nervous when it comes to emergencies and accessibility.

I've been in the UK for ten years but never had to go private, hence my ignorance.

Thank you, guys. :flower:

Hiya Hun,

I'm from the Gloucestershire area but I'm afraid I'm not very clued up on private care.

I'd have a chat with your gp here and they'd probably be able to give you details of some private clinics. I know there are private places like bupa but not sure how you go about becoming a patient.

Maybe try having a look on Bupa's website?

Sorry I wasn't much help!

Hey, thank you so much for replying. :flower:

I suppose you're right, I need to book an appointment with the doc and talk this through. I've already called the nursery and they asked me to bring a pot of urine in, even though I told them I'm 15 weeks already. I'll get things going on Monday so that I can see the midwife asap. I have a cervical cerclage too, so will need someone here to monitor me too.

Bump, anyway. :haha:

I'm not an expert on private care but my husband used to have bupa coverage through work. To be honest, private coverage in the uk provides no extra help in an emergency because private hospitals have no accident and emergency facilities. In an emergency they will probably get you to use the nhs hospital (although they may put you in a private ward). You will see the same doctors/consultants either way - and in the same timeframe. Private is better however for non-emergency care, and because of that they may spot things sooner. Bupa and spire are two I have heard of, but in my opinion are not worth the extra money. Most of the difference is cosmetic rather than health-related.
