Afternoon, me again!

It's just crossed my mind that when baby's born I'll be entitled to some kind of child benefit or something. As you can see, I haven't a clue what the chuff I'm talking about, and I'm pretty nervous that I'll have to organise all this soon

Does anyone know how it works, or know where I can find out?

Thankyoooou in advance! :flower: x x

Ooooh look forward to the replies coz I'm also in the dark about this xxx

HM Revenue for your child benefit and you should see if your entitled to tax credits :)
all of these can be claimed as soon as you register the babies birth xx

https://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/ all you need to know x

At present all UK women are entitled to claim child benefit for their children - this is not yet means tested. It's 20 pounds a week for your first child and about 12 pounds a week for subsequent children.
You can claim it as soon as you have registered the birth. I believe they give you the application form in the Bounty pack you get in the hospital after giving birth, or you can simply download the form from direct.gov after your baby is born

Tax credits are a different matter, they depend on your household income and so much is due to change this year in April that I'm not really up to speed with the whole thing.

I've filled in all my forms already hahahaha apart from date of birth obviously, just so that in the whirlwind of baby I can just print it off, sign and send :D

Everything's on there, you need birth certificate to go with it but it tells you everything you need to know. It says don't leave it too long before you crack on with it because it only back pays for so long - that's why I wanted to be ready ;)

working tax credits you can claim whilst on maternity leave and on low income, ive got to give them a call a month before baby is due, think i may get it back dated to when i started maternity leave.

child benefit and child credits you cant get until baby is here

Wow, thanks guys! You knowledgeable bunch :winkwink: How little do you have to earn to claim working tax credits? I clicked the link but it was a bit confusing  lol I'm crap at these things! x x

Working tax credits are income assessed so try doing the online tax credit calculator but fill in the dates as if it was last year (ie: put down babys due date for 2011 not 2012) It wont be 100% accurate but it will give u an idea of how much you may be entitled to.

Ive also filled out my child benefit form already so that all i need to do it print it off and send once i get the birth certificate. But you will get your child benefit forms and more details in your bounty pack when youve delivered xx
