Hi ladies, due to a difficult and non progressive labour after induction with my ds I ended up with an emergency csection. Now I have thought long and hard about it and decided to ask for an elective section this time but my midwife says that my consultant will give me a run for my money. Was it difficult for you to get an elective, what did you say?

hey there im having an elective section in scotland on the 14th of march 2012.. i have had two vaginal births befroe this and the second was traumatic for me and i have severe anxiety over it.. thats why they are doing the section for me i will also be having my tubes tied afte rthis baby... if your consultant does not agree to the secyion then ask him or her to refere you to someone who will... you need to state from day one that thats what you want... my midwife said to me you wont get a section the baby is coming no matter what you do or say that made me so mad... stick to you guns hun dont back down xxx

I had no problems, consultant discussed both options with me and left me to decide.

My experience is if you are knowledgable and informed then the consultant will take your wishes into consideration. Do your reading (particularly the NICE guidelines on birth after cs).

Good luck x

Stick to your guns, but do prepare to be challenged. As evasmum said, do your reading. Make sure you are informed on the risks of both C-section and vaginal birth. Be very clear on exactly why you want a C-sec - make a list if you can, of all the factors surrounding why you want to opt for surgery.

Good luck. I had to fight a bit for mine, but luckily I had my midwife very much onside and she was a huge help.

I hope you are lucky and get a decent consultant.

I had my booking in appointment last week, my previous pregnancy resulted in a Emergency section at 36week as I went into labour and progressed far quicker than expected, it was discovered at 4cm and confirmed at 8cm that my baby was breech.

My consultant came into see us after speaking to the mw; he did initially get my hackles up by laughing and saying 'I see you were too posh to push last time' however, by the time I left I felt this was actually just a mis-placed comment actually intended to break the ice and cause a giggle. (very mis-placed though, why are such clever people often so lacking in common sense!!!)

Anyway, he said to me immediately that as I had had a section I could have an elective. That was entirely my choice and that the most important thing was that I left the hospital that day with the information and not feeling pressured one way or another as both vaginal and section are equally valid ways of having a baby and that it didn't matter to him which I chose. The important thing was that I (& my husband) made the choice that was best for us.
He even indicated that he would be very flexible around dates (it should be 39 weeks ish) as my husband works rotation - away for 4 weeks, home for 4 weeks, and missed Georgia's birth because she came early - he is willing to take me in any time from 38 weeks if that is what we chose.

He was very balanced in the information he gave me and I felt completely happy that I wasn't being pushed in either direction.

I thought I would have to fight but I was told I could choose as I had an EMCS. I was advised by my midwife to go t the local VBAC discussion group and have a one t one appt with a specialist midwife to discuss my options which I did. I have now chosen a section and had no fight at all x

i have booked myself for elective c/s on 2nd april with my second child.with my first 1 i was in labour for 46 h i had epidural and in the end i almost lost my son coz he stuck in birth canal they perform forceps and vacuum and fucked up my hips for life as i was suffering on spd they cut me and i tear and that was when my epidural was wearing of so basically i felt everything and later at home stitches broke and i had to go bk to the hospital to repair also i had massive painful piles which still bothering me everytime i cough or bend over they popping out of my b...(sorry to much info)that was worst nightmare my son came out not breathing they had to do CPR on him for over 5 minutes(the longest 5 minutes in my life) has big scar on his head and he is 11 months old when he was pulled out we was so stressed out crying for week didnt want to eat being on pain relief since the minute he was born thats not fair on him.so im pregnant again now and this baby gonna be bigger than my son and the way i feel about vbac doesnt make me wimp im just scared and i dont want to go through this once again.thats what i said to my consultant and based on my past delivery he agreed on elective i know that recovery will be hard and i will have newborn and one year old boy to look after but recovery i had after vaginal was very hard and painful as well so im assuming it cant be much worse.my advise is be clear what you want and stick to your decision.good luck

Hi ive just seen my consultant and was asked if id thought about birth.i said i wanted an elective caesarean and she agreed no issues at all. i had an emergency caesarean with my son with failure to progress. my midwife had told me beforehand i wouldnt have a problem.im in west yorkshire.xx

At my 32 week appointment I was asked my thoughts on birth and I said I was wanting a section, they tried to persuade me otherwise so I said I would think about it and decide at 36 weeks. I attended a vbac class and then went back with the compromise that if I went into labour before the section I would try for a vbac, otherwise I would have a section, which they were fine with and didn't fight against my decision just rang up and booked me in etc, I was expecting a fight so took dh with me!
