i just went to view the prefect home for my and my little lady, just waiting to find out if we can have it or not (think he is alittle worried that i can afford, unsure of how things work with government help etc)

anyway i could afford it, plus bills with my current wage, i have started maternity so the first 12weeks i get nearly a full wage adding up 1/2pay and SM. but would be left with literally no money for clothes, for me or baby etc

a few months back, i had meeting with job centre plus, they give me a low down on what im entitled to when my little one arrives. on there is working tax credits, and child tax credits. anyway my question is when can i apply for these thing. it really confuses me, i want to get everything im entitled to and not struggle if i dont have to.

fob has offered to give me money every month, (and still not see our daughter) although i somehow dont believe a word he says!

thanks for any advice :)

i believe as soon as you have baby's birth certificate...

i just sent the BC off with the application and haven't had any issues

best wishes x

Child benefit - they give you the form to fill in in a bounty pack at the hospital after you give birth. Fill all this in correctly, sign it, take it with you to registrar when you get birth cert done, they can stamp it and send it off for you, which is quicker. Do this within six weeks of birth to get benefit from day baby is born. I got £80 put in my account ( you can choose if you want to be paid weekly or monthly, its about £20 per week).

Working tax and child tax credit - ring direct gov tax benefit as soon as you can after birth ( six weeks tops) they then send out a claim pack which you then fill in requesting both ( deffo should get child tax credit, working tax depends on income etc) and post back to them.

You should also find out/ be eligible for housing benefit and council tax. As far as I am aware you cant do any of the above until baby is actually born.

Hope that helps hun xx

I rang for my claim pack for tax credits the week before lo was due so I could fill it out and send it off ASAP once she was born, also sent off for my child benefit as soon as I had her bc. As for fob make him pay regardless, if he doesn't cough up go to CSA and they will make him :)

thanks everyone for the advice,
yes i will def be hitting fob for the money hes an ass and deserves to pay.

Are you entitled to the maternity grant? They did do it when I was pregnant last year but it had to be your first child and it was my second. I'm not sure if they still do it but if they do its a one off payment you can get so far into your pregnancy to buy things like cot pushchair clothes etc. I'm not on my laptop so I can't have a look for you to see if they still do it x

Don't know if it was always like this, but now you have to be on income support or some sort of non-working benefit to qualify, I wasn't entitled to it because I work

i went to the job centre plus a few months back, and a lady on here also told me this...

you can only get the surestart maternity grant if your on tax credits. so my plan is to quickly apply for tax credits etc then quickly apply for the sure start maternity grant, because then i should qualify with recieving tax credits. (you have to apply no later than 3months after your baby is born)

seriously all systems go being a single parent.

oooh and we got the prefect home :)

As soon as you have a BC you apply for Child Benefit but if I am right you can't apply for tax credits until you've got your certificate for CB back. Well at least this is how I had to do it although its probably changed.
