Working Girls in the Uk-
Has your Midwifes/Work mentioned a MATB1 form? (maternity certificate)

My Work has said they need this ASAP so they can Risk assess me... but need "proof" before doing so!? REALLY?
Midwife said i don't get it until im Around 20weeks... Work said if i don't hand it in by 15weeks, i wont get my Maternity Leave!!
STRESSING MUCH...!! :growlmad:

A lot of people don't even tell their work by 15 weeks so I don't think they can refuse your maternity leave. My mw told me I won't get it till 20 weeks either. Your work have to fo a risk assessment as soon as you tell them, whether you have the form or not x

They may mean they need it 15 weeks before ur due, that is the lastest u can tell them ur preg and will need mat leave. I got my form at 24 week appointment

You work is not correct as the midwife is not allowed to issue the MATB1 before 20 weeks. My work is similar in that they want the form as soon as possible so I will not offically be annoucing until after my 20 week appointment even though I will tell everyone after my 12 week scan.

Thanks Girls.. big help :)

There being a Pain! "We cant do this without it.."
Really?!! Im sure if you come home with me every morning and see my MORNING SICKNESS! thats proof enough for you!! lol

Thanks again! x

you work by law will require it by week 25 (15 weeks before your due) midwife will not issue till week 20-24. xx

Your midwife is correct. The health service do not issue the MAT B1 form until 20+ weeks.
They should take your word and do the risk assessment! Or how about showing them your hand held maternity notes as proof. Perhaps you should volunteer to pee on a stick during your lunch break if they need to see it to believe it!
Your work is also wrong about the maternity leave. you have to hand it in by 15 weeks before your due date. So that is 25 weeks of pregnancy. That gives you a whole month to hand it in once you receive it.
Off to google some legalese for you to print off for your employers...

Here is the website your employers need to look at.
Obviously they know your are pregnant already so you can give them some idea of when you expect to go on maternity leave and you will have been given a due date already. You only have to give them 28 days notice of the date you want to start your maternity leave I think. If you give them the MATB1 form before 25 weeks you are entitled to your maternity pay.
They are dimwits and have clearly not had to deal with this before perhaps?

Thanks for the Link Kat2504..

I have now spoken 2 work and is all sorted.. Just don't understand as we are a HUGE company, and they have delt with this LOTS of times!

Thanks again :) xx

I believe that as long as you tell them (I read that it had to be in writing somewhere but i cant find that now)that youre expecting, they have to conduct a risk assessment no matter what.
