At my 20 week scan they found a marker. It was something called an echogenic focus, which is like a little calcified ball inside the heart.
The midwife said it's most probably nothing to worry about as my age is only 23 and my triple test results were 1 in 5213 but that these markers have been linked with chromosomal abnormalities like Downs Syndrome.
She said they don't cause the baby any problems and no further tests or scans would be carried out as no other markers were found.
Still I'm REALLY worried. After looking on the internet it's just made it worse as it suggests that an echogenic focus can increase my risk of Downs 4 fold and that 92% of them are found in the left ventrical but my babys was found in the right which is meant to increase the risk further.
It's a terrible feeling as myself and DH know we couldn't cope if our baby has downs. I love my baby either way but I'm scared of bonding in case we have our hearts broken when he gets here.
