I went for my first ultrasound Friday. According to my LMP I would be 6 weeks 3 days.
A quick background for cycle info: I had a D&C on July 2nd. 35 days later I started a normal period. In the next cycle I conceived. So I have NO CLUE as to how long that cycle would have been. I tried OPK's but never got a positive and probably gave up too quickly.

Anyhoo, at the ultrasound, they found the gestational sac and a yolk sac. It measured 5 weeks 5 days. No fetal pole and obviously no heartbeat. It was a transvaginal ultrasound. Now, even though both the tech and the doc said this could be okay, I've read plenty of stories of women seeing heartbeats this early.

Also, I got my BFP on Sept 5, so I think I calculated that would have been 5dpo according to their 5 weeks 5 days measurement!!!! What????

After three mc's I'm obviously skeptical as to the viability of this pregnancy BUT the last one was a Blighted Ovum so I am delighted that there was a yolk sac...

What do you ladies think? If I'm truly 5 weeks 5 days is it ok to not see a fetal pole transvaginally? I have to wait TWO SOLID WEEKS for a repeat us. I'm going out of my mind. Do I hope? Do I give up? Please share your experiences and thoughts-good or bad I need to hear from some women who understand.

I've have two HCG results and they are doubling every 36 hours, gotta wait till Monday for Fridays numbers.

All my best,
Amy:shrug:

I wouldn't be too concerned if the doctor wasn't at that stage its hard to get a for sure date on the baby and some implant later and not all develop exactly the same, baby in 2 weeks could be measuring right in your scheduled guess. Also I think plus or minus 5 days is about normal. They will be able to tell more of a gestational age around 8 weeks.

If the doctor wasn't concerned then I wouldn't be. Honestly some babies do develop a little differently and even a couple of days makes such a big difference on where you are developmentally. I think if your hcg is doubling well then I wouldn't worry.

:hugs: So sorry you're going through this stress after everything you've been through. Sometimes early ultrasounds suck for this very reason... there can be enough to freak us out, but not enough to give us answers.

In this pregnancy, I had an ultrasound when I was 6+6 according to my LMP. I knew I usually ovulate a week "late", so I told them I expected to measure more like 5+6. Sure enough, I measured 5+6 (interestingly, baby has grown quickly and in some categories I'm now measuring a week ahead of even my LMP dates! So, everything is a range and can definitely change throughout the pregnancy... Sometimes babies grow slowly, then have growth spurts!).

We did see fetal pole and HB at that ultrasound, but frankly, even the tech was a little surprised we could see and measure the HB because I was measuring less than six weeks. She had told me in advance we might not be able to see those things.

The yolk sac is a good sign, but unfortunately you CAN have a yolk sac with a blighted ovum (I had one with my BO last year).

An even better sign is your HCG is doubling. That is WONDERFUL!

I'm so sorry you're in this horrific limbo; it's awful and so unfair. Maybe they can do the rescan next week to try to save SOME of your sanity??? Whenever they do it, I hope it shows the good news you so richly deserve!!

Thank you! They are doing a follow up scan in 2 weeks. You'd think I'd be used to the waiting in limbo, but as I'm sure you know it never gets easier. I get another set of HCG numbers Monday, and will test HCG again Wednesday. I am a bit more relaxed this time around but it's still tough.

How are you coming along? Thanks again for your reply :-)

Do not panic......

With my dd I O'ed on cd15 and yet we saw a hb at 5 weeks 3 days.

I won't start about my heterotopic as that was not normal

But with this pregnancy I know for a fact I O'ed on cd10 .....but guess what? No hb seen at 5 plus4. ,,,,,, I totally freaked out.....I'm now 11 weeks tomorrow and all looks good.

Please give it to 7 weeks

I wish you all the best for your rainbow

Soooo, not panicking just yet. I'll leave that for an hour or so before the next scan.

I got Fridays HCG results back and they went from 1279 to 11,563. The tests were actually 9 days apart, so that puts me at 68 hour doubling time.

Good I guess....

Anyone ever heard about a correlation between HCG levels and what should be seen on an ultrsound?

I remember reading something that at 6,000 you should see a heartbeat, but now I am reading conflicting things.....UGH GOOGLE.

:hugs:
Amy

Dr Google is not your friend :nope:

With DS I had early scan to confirm dates. I thought I was around 5+4, they told me I was measuring 4+3. That combined with the fact my HCG was nearly 80hrs to double got me the m/c pep talk from my doctor. I was prepared for the worst.

Went back for follow-up u/s exactly 2 weeks later and measured 7+4 with hb so right back on track and DS was born healthy and on his due date. They are sooooo teeny tiny early that there is a pretty big margin for error and I was told that is why they do 2 scans early, not just one.

The wait is excruciating but hoping it'll all be worth it :hugs:

With this pregnancy at 5+4 we saw an empty sac and my HCG was over 10,000 ....

I just had my first NHs appt at clinic today and baby is 8 days ahead.....yet no sac even seen at 5+4.... Please try not to worry

Your HCG is rising perfectly

About the same thing happened to me - my first u/s was at what was 6w 1day by LMP (though I don't think I o until day 17 usually so that would put it a few days back) and my hCg had already been up to 10,000 5 days before and they saw a yolk sac (and of course gestational sac) and the tech thought maybe a teeny hint of a flutter but it was just too small so officially the report was no fetal pole. Then the midwife who read the report got me more pessimistic because she said the gestational sac measured as large as expected (actually when i saw the report later it said the gestational sac measured large - 6 weeks 6 days )

BUT a week later there was a measurable little embryo and heartbeat and they said it measured at 6 weeks 5 days. (so my first scan would then have been at 5weeks 5 days like yours) Of course there's still a long way to go and my PAL brain is really hating not having another scan coming anytime soon, but ... that's another story. So far, so good.

I'm so sorry you have to wait 2 weeks not just one but then on the other hand you'll be able to see more then and you'll have a week less to worry about things after that scan and before your next one!

Fingers crossed that your next scan is great!
