Hello! Just had a growth scan this morning and the perinatologist noted an umbilical vein varix. He said this could cause problems (rare) with heart failure in the baby. Today his heart looked great. I will have to continue the twice a week non stress tests and once a week have a scan to check the fluid and his heart. They also noted I was on the upper end of amount of amniotic fluid so he wants me to have a 2 hour fasting then eat breakfast glucose test just to be sure. I just had the normal one a month ago and all was fine. He also suggested (since my other two babies were large -- 8 lbs 5 oz at 37 weeks and 8 lbs 8 oz at 38 weeks) that I be induced by 39 weeks. He then noted that in order to induce before 38 weeks I could have an amnio at 37.5 weeks. Now with the cord issue I just want him out as soon as he is ready. Do you think a c-section would be less stress on him with this issue? I have had two vaginal births before. (my second child also had cord issue - a single umbilical artery - but she is fine!!!)
Has anyone else had the umbilical vein varix? I am so nervous and googled it since I never heard of it before. BAD idea. Everything is medical journal type articles with not so good outcomes...
