Hi all,

I've started having acupuncture got fertility had sessions on CD7, CD14 and CD22 so far and I have to say I've found it pretty uncomfortable when the needles go in, the ones on my foot hurt for a few seconds but it's the ones on my abdomen that I find horrible. It's not pain as such more like a deep ache / bruise, Esp when he moves them about!

Even now 7 hours later I can feel a sensation in my left ovary, is this something to be concerned about?

The guy has been practicing for 25 years and has been recommended to me so I don't want to doubt his methods but it's not nice fur the first part or when he touches them. I have told him and one thing he did say was that as i have an ear infection (3 weeks!) sometimes an infection in the body does make you more sensitive.

Has anyone else felt this feeling, think the point he uses is the zigong point so basically right over my ovaries. I do feel relaxed when it's all still so maybe it's nothing to worry about?

Hi Misslissa

I recently started Acupuncture too. The points on my feet and upper calf hurt the most and to be honest although I bruise on my stomach they don't hurt quite as much. I feel a sharp pain with most points then a dull ache almost radiating away. I did have one on the back of my head/neck once but it hurt too much so she took that one out (too stressed)

I asked the lady about the pain and she said that you should always feel them, generally if I don't feel them after a short while she moves the needles around or I think puts it in deeper. She said to say if its ever too much to say as she prefers deeper as its works better 'no pain no gain' but its still effective. I would tell him that its a bit too sensitive on your stomach, she is very gentle on my stomach after ovulation with me.

I hope it helps you!

Hi there, that's what my acupuncturist said too. I am a bit worried he went too deep during my tww but I'm trying to trust him, he comes on good recommendation and 25yrs exp...

I didn't find most of them too painful except for the point between big and second big toe. My leg actually jerked far away from her and my fists clenched so hard the needles that were in them seared with pain.

The second time I went my shoulder and neck were really sore so I asked her to address that too. She put in 6 extra needles for that, at no charge. I also asked her to put tens (electric stimulation) through the needles for my shoulder...man did that feel great!

It was only that one time but I have to say, acupuncture is still an art like massage & chiro, if the person doesn't listen to you and continues the next time putting them as deep and painful as they are, try another one. Has your ear infection been diagnosed by a doctor? It'd be worth finding out if he was just talking through his arse. What's so great about our day and age is having the choice of hundreds of people to choose from in every perimedical profession. Hundreds of years ago there was 1 doctor per village and most of them were very uneducated.

My acupuncture needles can definitely be felt as they go in (with the possible exception of a couple of locations) and they hurt when she moves them about. I asked about this and she said I should be able to feel them and that it's a good thing. Following a session I sometimes have sensations in my abdomen which I attribute to work she has been doing; it's not the same feeling as when the needles are in but definitely linked.

Can I also just mention the chat thread I've started back up recently. It's all about Traditional Chinese Medicine, including acupuncture. I read the whole thread over several days (it's very long!) and have been posting since starting acupunture a month ago. Might be worth a read and would be lovely to have your input on there!

The one thing my acupuncturist said that i can do to continue with when I'm at home is hot packs on lower abdomen from CD1-O and warm fluids (no cold drinks) after O. I also already take all of the supplements they recommend so feel covered there.

I tried black cohash (bought from a large organic store, good brand name) and wound up in hospital with liver damage. I don't recommend ANY chinese herbs and if you do try them make sure to google the contraindications of them first. If they have any mention of liver damage, steer clear!

I've been doing acupuncture since April, the only ones that hurt are in the tops of my feet and back of my hands. I usually feel them pinching for a few seconds and that's it. They should not be hurting you that fad and if he is not willing to adjust them then you should go to soneone else, period. There are too many options to settle for one just because he has good recommendations.

Good luck!!!

I'll go this week and see how it feels. I do relax once they are in and not moved so maybe I'm just being a bit soft!

Otherwise yeah I'll try someone else.

Chinese herbs isn't for everyone, but the methods used to keep the body balanced and in working order has been successfully used for centuries! My husbands family uses then and has me using them as of recently(which may or may not be what threw my cycle off this month) but I have noticed a positive change in my body otherwise. It is rare that an herb given by a chinese doctor will harm you in any way, but it can happen if the strength is too high,or you have an allergy.
I will also be trying out acupuncture soon too.
