Just wondering if anyone out there had trouble concieving with an under active thyroid? I just recently got tested and I am now on meds. The docter did a blood test to check if I ovulated and I did. The waiting is hard.

Hi love,

I've very recently been diagnosed with an overactive thyroid - treatment for it is a little more complicated so I have to wait to see a specialist, but the effects they have on fertility are the same.

If you are ovulating you are as fertile as somebody without an underactive thyroid (I'm not actually ovulating but hopefully will when I get treated)

The problem is not getting pregnant but that it can cause miscarriages. The doctors will probably want your TSH level to be normal before you get pregnant to reduce this risk and your meds will do that for you.

Don't worry, you're not infertile, especially since you ovulating. Have you told the doctor you are trying to get pregnant though so he can monitor your TSH when you get pregnant?

My husband has an under active thyroid. I am not sure if it is the same for women but we conceived twice in 5-4 months ok with it.

Good luck with yours. I hope it comes right.
Thanks for the reply. Ja I have told the dr. My thyriod isn't very low so prehaps she though it was ok. On meds now though.

I have under active thyroid. I have this for 10 years and taking synthetic thyroid hormone every morning. My doc. told me that if TSH levels are below 2,5 there would be no problem conceiving. But, I am at my 12th cycle TTC now and actually going to doc tonight for further tests.
The important thing about hypothyroid is you should keep taking your meds during TTC and once you're pregnant they'll adjust the dosage for you and the baby and you'll keep taking that hormone throughout the pregnancy.
I don't think that me not being able to get pregnant yet is correlated with hypothyroid but we'll see what doctor says tonight.
Good luck!
