Underweight and miscarried?

I’m pretty sure I’m having another miscarriage as I’ve started spotting brown and have had minor cramps in my lower abdomen the past few days. Also, the scan last week didn’t show any yolk sac or fetus pole at 6w2D and said it was measuring me at 5W instead. I had another miscarriage in April 08 (5 months ago)…. 2 pregnancies, none were successful. We haven’t done any testing yet, so the Dr. assumes it’s due to chromosomal abnormalities. Though 2 in a row? That’s just too scary to . I searched on-line and there’s a research recently done that indicated underweight women have a higher chance of miscarriage in the first trimester. I’m definitely underweight for my height, and have always been. Are any of you in the same situation? Underweight and have had several miscarriages in a row? Did your doctor mentioned t your weight as a possibility? Or were you able to find out what specifically caused your miscarriage?

I hope you are doing ok hun and I really hope you're not miscarrying.

I didn't want to read and run. Although I'm not underweight I too have had 2 mc's, so I can understand the need to know what is causing them. My sister was underweight with all 3 of her pregnancies and it never caused her any problems. I have never heard of weight causing problems so try not to worry too much. Ask your doctor if you are concerned, and just make sure you have a balanced diet and eat healthly, that's half the battle.

I don't know how much it plays into pregnancy complications either, but according to the "study" in UK, underweight women are 70% more likely to miscarry in the 1st trimester. My husband is now requesting that I gain at least 10 lbs. I have no idea how!

I just want to say I pray you are not miscarrying and everything will be ok? I did have spotting and brown at 5 weeks with my son and had to go back 2 weeks later he is now a healthy 4 1/2 year old x x x

I am not underweight but I also have read this that underweight women has higher chances to mc but this is not the only reason...........
I am not underweight and I also had 2 mc in a row this year....

its not fair...........but we all feel so helpless whenever it comes......just wish that you get well soon..........

Thank you everyone. We spoke to our OB about it and she mentioned it wasn't necessary my weight, as the miscarriages could be due to a number of different things, although it wouldn't hurt for me to gain a few pounds if I wanted to. So, I'm gonna try just for the sake of being even more healthy (although, I swear I eat pretty well and balanced, and I eat as much as my husband.) Anyways, we're getting actual testing done in a month or so, thank goodness I don't have to fight with my OB about this - since it's "only" been my second m/c. They're very very supportive, which is comforting to know.

Ok, I'm going to have me some pizza now!!!

Hi there, really sorry to read you may be going through a 2nd m/c!! Just wanted to add my own experience, although I can see you've now seen your OB and got a few answers.

I've always been underweight, despite best efforts to try and put on the extra pounds! I too have experienced 2 m/c and a close family member said it might have been because I was underweight!!! I was mortified, it naturally added to the blame and guilt I already felt for having some damaged body parts

BUT... I was blessed in March this yr when got a BFP. Was the same weight I always before, but so far this one has 'stuck'! So now I no longer believe weight is a 'cause' in m/c.

I never had answers for my 'two in a row' losses, and can relate to the fear of daring to try for a third bfp.... but I think two losses is still classed as 'within the normal range' (ha!!! in medical terms at least!! ), they never wanted to waste their money on testing me......
