I thought H's head shape would have evened out by now but she still has quite a pronounced bump on one side and a little flat bit on the right/back/topside (imagine where your mum would have clipped you round the back of the head lol).

Should I get it looked at or is it normal.

Don't notice it unless her hair is wet as she has quite thick hair.

My daughter has a flat head on one side, she always used to favour the right side of her head when she was born. I bought some special pillows for her cot and have been using them from about 6 weeks. Her head is still a bit flat. I can't quite decide if it has gone down a little or it's just covered with a bit more hair.
I went to see the doctors about this but she seemed to think it would grow out. Nobody seems to notice it unless I point it out.
Aparrently the skull does not set until 2 years. By then she'll have so much hair I won't notice it.

My little boy Sonny has a head shaped just like you explained your daughters as being. He is 3.5 years now and it didnt change, despite the doctors telling me it would improve. Its not overly noticable until his hair is wet, just as you mentioned. I dont think that uneven skull shapes are that uncommon. xx

A's was uneven and i took him to see a cranial osteopath. He had two treatments and it has improved a lot. It also helped with his trapped wind, sickiness and stuffy nose x

I've done LOTS of looking at head shapes since Rebecca was diagnosed with her medical condition and I can assure you there are a surprising number of asymmetrical heads out there!!

I'm sure the doc will simply say that it'll sort itself out but it's worth asking if you're concerned.

For what it's worth, from your avatar pic, H looks perfect to me! :flower:

I say if you're bothered about it, or think your LO will be bothered down the line...get a second/third opinion. That said...a GP or HV will likely tell you that it will correct itself, so be prepared to take it further if you're serious about wanting something done for it.

Lola's is exactly like that, its where shes had her head to one side when she sleeps. Im not too worried about it, i think its quite common. I do keep meaning to ask the health visitor though x

my LO has a funny head shape too. i asked my HV and she said it would correct itself by about 9 months when she was a bit more active. but said if i was concerned then go to the docs and ASK for a referal. even the doc said she would grow out of it but she hasnt yet! she has been diagnosed with right coronal craniosynostosis and has been refered to oxford for special 3d scans, which takes place this tuesday. i have been told she will almost definatly need an opperation to correct her head shape but they wont do it before she is 1year old for some reason that doesnt bother me! she is 1 in 8 days anyway.

u can only really notice she has a flat head on one side when her hair is wet also as she has so much of it. if u are worried ASK for a referal not just their oppinion, as they will try and fob u off. hope everything is ok tho and i dont mean to worry u xxx

Thanks ladies. I think I'll ask for a referral just to be safe. Like you said leelee they do try to fob you off. I'd hate for it to impact her features later in life as someone else mentioned. Life is tough enough!

It's actually the craniosynistosis that concerns me - it's been on my mind recently and I only knew about through ww1's ask a mum post. (ww1 is it Rebecca's op this month?).

It's great to have a site like this as otherwise I would never have heard of it and it's easier for the docs to fob us mums off.

I really hope it's not, but better to be fore-armed - thank you ladies.

Hi Buffy. It's highly unlikely to be craniosynostosis as it's pretty rare but it is worth mentioning to the docs if you are concerned. Be prepared for your GP to know very little about it though! If you've any questions I recommend the craniokids forum - lots of knowledgeable parents (they've helped me lots!) As I said, it's very unlikely to be cranio.

Rebecca's op has been delayed slightly as we've transferred to the specialist centre in Liverpool. We've an appointment on the 21st and will hopefully know more then - so it's still waiting. Thanks for thinking of us and asking :hugs:

Thanks hon.

That's a bugger it's been delayed - although good your getting real specialist help. Hope all goes well and you get some answers on the 21st.

Xx
