I am 33, with ALL POSSIBLE tests normal.
Hubby - 25, excellent sperm

Have beein trying since August of last year. 3 clomid cycles, 1 IUI - all failed.
My doctor wants me to start injectibles+IUI. I am very reluctant... Wondering what you guys think about it?

Would you try a few more cycles of clomid+IUI, do injectibles or just let it go and try naturally for another year or so? I realize that it hasnt been even a year since we started trying.

Hi hun,

We are unexplained as well. We have done 4 IUI's with Clomid and then Femara and have now decided to go for IVF. Insurance doesn't cover anything that has to do with inferility otherwise we'd probably give IUI another go or two.

Good luck to you!

I see you are in NY - where do you go? I am at Cornell. My insurance covers unlimited IUIs.

Hope it's OK to ask... but what was the reason you started the IUI already? Especially since you are both young, under 35 and all tests look good...? Guess I'm just used to people trying for a year or more (unless over 35) before seeking help...

Obviously it's been a frustrating journey for you both. I would maybe try 1-2 more cycles on Clomid with IUI before moving on to Injectables... but that's me, you need to do what feels right for you. We are doing 3 rounds of Clomid/IUI first before moving on... but injectables do give better odds by about 5% overall. There is a higher risk of multiple births though, but if that no concern, then it's not gonna hurt to try at some point.

Wishing you all the best hun! Hopefully this helps soon!

We waited for a loooong time before starting and were so excited an eager. After 3 months I started panicking and went to fertility specialist. He firstly suggested clomid, and in the course of next 3 months was doing all the tests. I also have a few examples of people with fertility issues, so I was scared we will have issues too. I feel like time is running out... I want to have at least 2 more children ( I have one 12 year old).

Hiya,

I'm unexplained as well..everything looks great for both OH and I, I was first told I was unexplained when I was about 20 and had to take Clomid...got pregnant with DD and then got pregnant on Clomid with DS both times took 1 cycle :)

I am now 36 and have not been on birth control since I was 18 or 19 I think and no other pregnancies...we have gone to an RE and were told we were true unexplained meaning all those years and nothing. I've had every test under the sun and they all come back great, we were told to skip IUI because if its unexplained then chances of becoming pregnant with just the sperm skipping the cervix really isn't much use to us. We were also told by the time we went through6 cycles of IUI it would have easily paid for a round or two of IVF which we have a much higher chance of becoming pregnant.

Your RE should have discussed what your chances are with what procedure, IUI is easier on the pocketbook but if its going to take awhile or if you get pregnant at all sometimes your better off paying for a round of IVF. That's what our RE told us and I'm glad she was honest with us. Good Luck and just ask lots of questions!!

Hey Lurdes- I would like to give you a different view. I have gone through the same turmoil as you (though u already having a pregnancy in the past is a good indicator but definitely not a guaranteed one) I started ttc when i was 31 thinking I have time and now I am 34 (35 soon) and currently on my 2nd IVF. Please dont think I am trying to scare u. That is not my intention. I wish there was someone who had told be of how things are more difficult for some (like me) Friends and family kept telling me I am still young and over reacting and blah blah and it takes ppl time to conceive naturally and to calm down. We also had all clear on our fertility test . DH has a great count. I ovulated normally every month. Eventually we did get our first and only BFP on an IUI cycle with injectibles which turned out to be a chemical. That got my RE thinking that maybe my egg quality is not too great and insisted on a Lap. And sure enough- I was diagnosed with advanced stages of Endo. I am now currently on my 2nd IVF which I dont like to talk about. Only my DH & I know we are going through It. This is the first time I am even writing about in on this forum. Its just been a long and painful journey which does not seem to end. I am also evaluating my options to adopt.

Sorry for such a long post but what I am trying to say is that from 33 to 35 does not take long. If you have already started the fertility treatments go into it headlong. This is entirely my view and ultimately u should do what u think is best. I wish you all the best and hope ur time comes soon. And sorry if I have sounded too negative on this post.

I go to RMA.

How lucky that your insurance covers unlimited IUI's!! If our insurance did that, I'd be going every month!

Even though fertility issue are not the "norm"- obviously they do happen, I'm a great example of that! lol. But MOST of my friends have had no issue getting pregnant. Some right off, some later on and some without really TTC! I only know one other person seeking FS help though- and we had a great chat last night! It was nice to talk with someone else going through rough times- although all my friends are wonderful and supportive, it's hard cause they really don't understand what I'm going through. I'm glad they don't! It's not the most fun I've ever had ;) lol.

If all looks OK for you both- chances are it will happen hun. Maybe not in the time frame you'd like, but you'll get there. I would for sure give the IUI a bit more time... ya never know? But certainly do what feels best for you.

My situation is different because I do know what we are fighting against... I'm sure it's frustrating that all tests are good, and you just don't know why???

Wishing you ALL the best of luck hun!!! :flower:

Thank you all for your support.

Crystal - my IUIs all fully paid for by the insurance, thats why I don't mind going there often.

Looknomore - thanks for your view. I haven't done lap, my doc doesnt think it is a good idea. I am trying to postpone injectibles as long as I can...

Chris77 - I heard good things about RMA.... I like my doc at Cornell a lot though.

To all - I have decided to take a break for another month and then try Clomid+IUI again.
