My LO is 3 and a half weeks old now and I breastfed her for the first 2 weeks but stopped cos I wasnt getting any rest and she was constantly hungry and was losing weight when she should of started gaining it(think I wasnt producing enough milk because she spent 3 days in special care baby unit and was being topped up with aptamil up there so I could sleep) So when I decided to bottle feed ive been using aptamil and she just never seems happy.. shes on 4oz every 3-4hours.. but she downs the whole bottle and seems like shes still hungry sometimes - surely I cant put her on 5oz already?! Daytimes arent too bad but come evening she gets really screamy like shes in pain.. But I can eventually console her with alot of rocking and a dummy.. Im wondering if its abit of colic.. she always has wind(didnt know babies could fart as much as she does lol) & sometimes has trouble bringing up her wind after a bottle.. Ive been looking stuff up online and ive read posts from people with a similar thing when they was on aptamil but swapped to cow and gate and had an improvement.. or the aptamil comfort sounds like a good soloution as well cos shes been having trouble with constipation and can take 2 days to get a dirty nappy and ive read good things about it helping.

Any advice on what I could try please? Thankyou :)

Does sound like she has a bit of colic. There are a few things you can try, infacol, gripe water, but baby has to be 4 weeks for gripe water and colief. Massaging the belly can also help too. I would up the bottls if lo has finished but looking for more, see how you get on. My lo was on 5oz about 2 weeks ish lol.

Thankyou :) Do u think I should put her on the comfort milk too? I bought some gripe water yesterday, she'll be 4 weeks on sat so i'll try it then. xx

Try some of those things before changing milk, infacol can take a few days to kick in, but gripe water is pretty much straight away, i think lol. If you can give some extra water between feeds for the constipation, if there isnt any change after a few days possibly change milk then, chat to your hv before changing though, they may have another solution. I have just put my dd on comfort milk, the girls on here say it can take up to 2 weeks to see the difference, even though i only changed on friday, there has been a slight improvement already. Hope this helps. You can pm if you want to anytime.

i had the exact same problem and changed my baby girl to aptamil comfort and dr brown bottles (i swear they are amazing.........!!!) and infacol before every feed and she is like a different child absolutely amazing :) i would go with your instinct, i changed her milk/bottles over as soon as she started showing signs of colic as my little boy had it and it wasnt nice.......... she still grizzles sometimes but its mainly if she tired not because she is in pain........and also i know it sounds wierd but we wind her after a feed and she brings up a few big burps then lay her down for about 5/10 minutes pick her up and put her over the shoulder and wind again and she brings up more nice big burps..........good luck!xxx p.s she is 3 weeks old and sleeps all night apart from one feed and then she is back in her moses basket after 15 minutes and fast asleep again.....not sure if this is to do with the milk???as it is quite a lot thicker?xx

My lo is on aptamil comfort n so far so good stil had a bad half hour at night but not like it was, we combined the milk with tt anti colic plus bottles(like dr browns) n seen a good change. Also use gripe water which helps, dentinox didn't work for us xx

Ella is 6wks today and from 2wks you could set your watch for the colic to start (she was breastfed until 3wks) in the evenings.
We tried it all. Infacol, the Dentinox one, Gripe Water (4wks,made her sick instantly!)..nothing would calm her from 5pm until 10pm.
She went on to formula, cow and gate hungry at 3wks and did 3oz every 3hrs and 4wks 4oz every 3hrs. She then developed an awful rash and now on Nutramigen doing 5oz every 5hrs. The colic has calmed a bit (milk claims it does this too) but the best thing we found-a nice long, warm bath in the evening with me. Lay her on her belly on your tum/chest in the warm water and massage her back. Different baby after!
Friends swear by colief but at £12 for a tiny bottle I didnt bother.
It gets better! Also dont introduce meds and new milk all at once, give infacol etc a week to work and new milk a couple.
