Last Saturday I started having contractions at about 2am. They weren't regular so I just ignored them and got on with my day. Things started to pick up on Sunday, the contractions were more regular but still not close enough or long enough to be considered active labour. Monday morning I woke the husband at 5.30am to tell him we needed to go to the hospital.
On the way to the hospital the contractions slowed down!! At the delivery suite they said I was only 3cm so they gave me a sweep and we spent a few hours walking around the hospital. Still the contractions didn't really pick up so the midwife said we could go home or go to the maternity ward(where we could only stay for a limited time and they would send us home anyway if the contractions didn't pick up), so we went home.
I got in the bath because I'd read this can help things along. The contractions started coming thick and fast!! I sat up to get out and my waters broke, then I felt the need to push straight away. I managed to get the husbands attention (after yelling for what felt like hours!!) and he got me out of the bath and into bed the called for an ambulance. We live a 30min drive from the hospital so we knew there wasn't any point trying to get there.
The paramedics arrived after about 25mins, they handed me the gas and air, and after 2 pushes my little man was born!! If they had taken any longer my husband would have been delivering the baby!!
The midwife arrived about 5 mins later and checked over me and the baby, we were both fine, no stitches for me!!![Smile :-) :-)](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png)
I was terrified at the time but now I think about it and it was an amazing experience!! It was great to be at home, to shower in my own bathroom and relax in my own bed.
