Well I'm at a turning point, I made it a year breastfeeding, well some formula was introduced, but still a majority was bfing.. and I've made it a year :happydance: its a bittersweet feeling, I always said I would quit at a year, but then a couple weeks ago I figured I would continue just the one morning feed for a bit longer, but since finding out I'm pregnant my nips are sore :nope: I didn't know they'd get sensitive.. I thought since bfing they'd be toughened up.. but perhaps I just misunderstood. Anyhow, is this normal for them to hurt? because now I'm thinking I should just quit..

First, congrats on making a year! :happydance:

I'd imagine it is likely normal for your nipples to start hurting regardless of the fact that you are still breastfeeding. Of course the choice is yours to quit, but one breastfeed a day-if it is still comfy for you and LO- might be worth continuing-what I mean is the nipple pain might ease up a bit soon, so maybe you shouldn't make the decision right now (wait a few more weeks, perhaps?) just in case you do quit just to regret it later when your nipples don't hurt anymore. I breastfed my daughter until she was 19 months, so I understand how hard it is to make the decision to quit (it's an emotional time  )

I'm sure you will do what is right for you and LO, just trust you instincts

It is normal to have nipple pain again during pregnancy. It can get pretty intense. Whether you quit or not is obviously a personal thing for you and lo, but if you wanted to continue in some fashion, I know that one strategy some women use is to put limits on the number of times and the duration of feeds. So if you can stand to nurse for 5 minutes, then continue nursing for 5 minutes and then cut the feed off. Around the second trimester is when a woman's supply starts dropping due to pregnancy (on average). From others I've heard that the pain can also lessen at that point for some women, so if you wanted to see if you can last to that point, it might be a good end goal to help you feel like you've done all you can, and you might find that the pain goes away and be glad you waited (though I completely understand that 6 weeks of pain might as well be 6 months, especially with first tri tiredness and ickiness). :hugs:

Yeah lately as soon as I feel like I hafta get her off now I do, in a nice way of course :haha: but I am ok with her taking bottles but since she is only feeding once in the morning I kinda wanna continue.
