I'm not really asking for advice (although it is welcome!), just need to vent really...

My OH got made redundant at the end of March but started a new job in April, we were so relieved when he got the offer, what with a 2nd baby on the way. After 6 weeks they have 'ceased his employment' because he 'lied' about his GCSE results. He put 10 GCSEs A-C when he actually had 9 at grades B-E! THE HORROR!!! It is so ridiculous. Anyone would think he is a GP that lied about having a degree in medicine. He is more than capable of doing the job, and got on really well with everyone there. His GCSEs have no real relevance. FFS, he took them 15 years ago! and it is very convenient that HR decided to do this the day after his manager leaves - so no-one was there to stick up for him.

We are just in shock. He has always worked, never been fired, never messed around, never deliberately dishonest. He has only ever had 2 jobs before this and only left them because of redundancy. He is a solid guy who works hard and any employer would be lucky to have him.

So...we are currently up sh!t creek without a paddle. I am on mat leave but my job is only part time and the wages are not good. We currently get maternity allowance, child tax credits and child benefit. Today he has applied for JSA (but probably won't get it because he was sacked), and housing benefit.

I just hope we are entitled to something because otherwise we are homeless!!! We have funds to pay June's rent but after that...nothing! Oh happy days!

sorry to say hun but from an employers point of view it is an indication of the kind of person he could be

i think after 6 weeks if i found out something like that, i would perhaps keep the employee depending on how well they were getting on, but tbh it would make me very wary of considering them with any trust whatsoever in the future

i know you say he is a good, honest & hardworking guy, which may be true, but the employer only has the fact that he lied to make judgement on

But such a minor error, and it wasn't even deliberate. I mean I don't remember what I got for all my results.

wow! No advice hun but I think that sucks!!
I hope that your situation improves. xxxxxxxxxx
