*UPDATE* BFN to BFP, ectopic again or what?

Okay I have been TTC since October 2011 and finally recieved a postive pg test this past March but it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy. Well the doc gave us the go ahead to TTC again but we really wernt trying that hard. Well this month I was a week late, which is odd to begin with because I am on the dot 28 days every month give or take a day. Well last week I woke up one morning sick as everything, I did not think I was going to be able to hold a glass of water down. I just laid back down and went back to sleep. I took a pg test the next day and it came back BFN well a week later my AF showed but it was not a normal AF. I started bleeding but it was red at first then turned brown almost as quick as it started, as it does at the end of my five days. It only last for two days very light bleeding two tampons, then stopped. Because of this weird cycle me being me I pulled my second pg test out of the packet and tested again, this time it comes back BFP, but I was bleeding. Now I am waiting a few days to test again because I am scared to death of another ectopic pg. if it comes back BFP again I'll have to make an immediate doctors appointment to find out if it is ectopic or not. It was a CVS brand hold in urine stream test. They could not tell me the last time I had an ectopic why I had it, the doc told me that I had no history showing that I would have even been at risk to begin with for an ectopic. Has anyone ever experienced this before...

I had an ectopic last september so big hugs to you - it sucks!

I don't want to sound all doom and gloom here but what you really need is to get a blood test done asap, then a repeat one 48 hours later. Urine tests will not give you an accurate enough result.

There could be a few things happening here. Your 1st test (BFN) could have been a false negative either due to low hcg levels or faulty test. Your bleeding could then be either due to chemical /mc or ectopic - with a chemical/miscarriage your hcg blood levels will decrease after 48hrs.
If your blood levels do not decrease but fail to double atleast, then you will need further blood tests and a series of scans to locate the pregnancy.

Best case scenario is that you are pregnant and the light AF was just late implantation, a little cervical erosion or hcg levels not quite high enough to suppress some extent of bleeding. I really hope this is it.

However - I must stress to you that you must phone your GP or early pregnancy support unit at maternity hospital and get your blood checked tomorrow and again on sunday. Good luck

Thsats exactly how my first ectopic was ( I have had two), I know the thought of it happening again is awful but the sooner you get seen the better the outcomes re. saving tubes> I was so late I nearly died and I lost a tube. The earlier the better. Good luck! xx

An ectopic pregnancy will show a positive however due to low rising hcg levels associated with ectopic pregnancy's it may take longer to show a positive than a normal pregnancy would. your body still produced hcg during a ectopic

ok im freaking out now,i have been feeling pregnant,ive had all the symptoms and im 15 dpo 1 day late and still BFN,does it mean i have ectopic pregnancy?i have super bad lower back pain and burning sensation

aiden187 - in response to your question - an ectopic can show as a BFP as early as a 'normal' pregnancy. However, as it implants in an unsuitable place (ie tubes, c-section scar etc) the hcg levels fail to double as they should.
For example, you could have an hcg of above 10 by 14dpo, miss a period & test positive. However by 5-7 weeks pregnant, your body starts to notice the hcg level is too low and you start to bleed.
For me the bleeding was bright red and once they mentioned ectopic I knew it was in my right tube as I had been feeling sore on that side, but subconsciously.

There would no reason to suspect an ectopic unless you had pain on one side (feels different to stretching) or bleeding and both of these would only be significant in another couple of weeks time.

i only had bleeding 9 dpo and i think it was implantation,what other reasons could it be that i test negative and no af?

she is right...when I had my ectopic I tested positive the day before my missed period but it was an extremly faint line. My husband couldnt see it but I could. He thought I was seeing things. Had blood work done and my hcg levels were low but they did not catch it until after I started bleeding which was nearly 2 weeks later. I remember waking up in the middle of th night thinking I was going to die the cramps on one side were so horrible...I don't see any reason you should be worried about it....good luck...

you dont ever have to apologize for being worried...everyone does it...lol...we cause ourselves to worry more than we ought to I think sometimes...I know I can't help it....TTC can be extremely stressful at times and its a really bumpy rollercoaster ride...your up then your down...but you know what when you get that first BFP it makes it all worth it...good luck on your TTC journey and I hope everything works out for you...

I took another test, this time a 88 cent walmart test and it came back negative...does anyone think I should still make a doc appointment or what. I would write the first positive off as a false positive but it came back within the allowed time limit. and if I had a chemical pg would I have had a full regular period. has this happened to anyone...false positive?

SO after my two negative 88cent test from walmart I went back to CVS to get another test and just took it and it reads BFP so I am now for sure making an appointment to get my blood tested to see what is going on. My line is no darker but it came up within a minute. SO that is a positive then two negatives then another positive. What is going on...

everyone is different...I think you'll be okay as long as your levels are doubling like they are suppose to dont worry youll be fine....

Jcliff - is is very normal to get discomfort on one or both sides before BFP. Ectopic pain feels quite different and doesn't happen until the embryo grows and starts pushing on tubes. The embryo is still small enough to get through tubes around 14dpo.
