So I had my weekly AFI fluid check today, I had very low fluid with my last pregnancy and this pregnancy it has been borderline so I am now getting fluid checks once a week until I deliver. Today they also added on a growth check for the baby. Now I know that the ultrasound estimates can be off a pound or so either way, but I feel today's was pretty accurate. My tech was awesome, she took so much time. Out of my 4 kids and probably 50 ultrsounds I have had, today was by far the most amazing and memorable for me :) She triple checked her measurments, and considering my baby was also measuring 2-3 weeks ahead at his 21 week ultrasound I feel the size estimation is pretty accurate.

I am 35.5 weeks today and my baby is measuring 39-40 weeks and weighs in at 8lbs 3oz already! His head is the size of 41 weeks and is thought to be 13.8" around already! I figured he was big because I have been very large belly wise this pregnancy, bigger then my other 3. I am still 10lbs DOWN from my pre-pregnancy weight adn knowing i have low fluid I knew it was mostly baby.

Fluid-wise its hanging in there. It was 11 today which is ok. Anything over a 5 is "ok" but they want it over 8. Below 8 and I have to stay in hospital on monitors due to my risk with my last pregnancy. We were able to see he has lots of hair, it was "floating" in the fluid. Also he has chubby cheeks!

Anyways here are a few pics that have the size estimation printed on them.. thought some of you ladies might enjoy seeing them.

If I am still pregnant at 38 weeks we are re-checking growth. But we both have a feeling I will go around 37 weeks since I am already soft and effacing and a bit dialated. Only time will tell though.

Wow, that's impressive! Were your others big too?

Thanks for sharing those neat pictures! Too cute about his hair floating around!

Holy moly, that's huge! Are you sure of your dates? Maybe you really are farther along than you think!

Well, my now 11 year old was 8lbs 5oz, 21.5" long with a 14" head at 39.6 weeks (I was only 17 at the time).

My now 9 year old was 8lbs 3oz, 20.5" with a 13.5" head at 37.1 weeks

My now 6 year old was 6lbs 1oz and 19.5" with a 13" head at 36.5 weeks but she was sick due to having no fluid left and having stopped growing/developing they believe around week 34 and she was very sick for quite awhile so I can't really use her size as a comparison.

I know that I am right on with my dates because I was trying to concieve so I was charting, using ovulation tests, checking cervix position as well as cervical mucous, ect. I also got a super faint bfp at 9dpo. I had multiple early ultrasounds also at 6 weeks, 7 weeks, and 9 weeks which were right on with dates (give or take a day or two).

So I know my April 14 due date is accurate! I really just think hes going to be a huge boy! Hopefully he is done cooking and healthy and ready to come on his own at 37 weeks!!! I can hope!!

you could into labour anytime soon hun!! im super excited for you.. nice to have a big bubs..

Wow! Big baby! My first son was 10 pounds at birth so I completely understand. I did not expect that at all - my doctor knew but didn't tell me because he was afraid I would panic and think I couldn't deliver. My biggest fear was having a c-section. So I delivered him naturally and when they told me he was 10 pounds my jaw hit the floor!

That is kind of where I am right now. We are doing another growth check at 38 weeks (if i am still pregnant). If he is at 10lbs the dr wants to do a c-section at 39 weeks and not even try an induction. He feels the risk of baby getting his shoulders stuck is to high and a c-section would be safer for both me and baby. I am horrified, terrified, scared to death at the thought of a c-section! It is my biggest fear!!! I've had 3 babies vaginally and I don't want my last one to be a c-section! My last 2 came out really quickly, one in 5 pushes, and last one in 1 push so I have a good pelvis for birthing babies... I really want to try to deliver vaginally but dont want to be 'selfish" and hurt my baby either :(

If baby is looking to be only 9lbs he is willing to try an induction at 38 weeks if I do an amnio first to make sure lungs are developed, or 39 weeks if i don't want the aminio.

I totally understand you not wanting a c-section. If you feel like you can do it, and there isn't an imminent risk to you or the baby, I'd say insist on a natural labour if that's what you want! Remember, it's your body! :flower:

Wow are they giving you a section or are you sticking with vaginal??

I'd be too intimidated??

I figured you knew exact dates :) My mom had a big baby boy so I'm hoping mine doesn't follow suit!

Well here's hoping they go through with an induction. I was induced at 41 weeks with my son and my doctor knew full well that he was a big boy. He also knows that this second boy is measuring even bigger (although there is no knowing at this point if he will measure bigger than my first by the end) and there is no plan to do a c-section for me. I had my 10 pound baby in 5 and half hours from start to finish and had no troubles getting him out. They told me it was an hour and a half of pushing, but I don't feel like it took that long.
There are perks to having a big baby - trust me, they don't wake up as often to be fed. My son was sleeping 7 or 8 hours through the night from day one because he ate a lot at one time and it kept him sustained for a long time. No getting up every 3 hours or so to feed him. I did have to supplement him with formula for 2 weeks until I had a good supply of milk for him, but everything worked out very well.

Just an update from me. Had another ultrasound/growth check today. Last monday at 35.5 weeks the baby was 8.3lbs and had a 13.8" head. Today 1 week later at 36.5 weeks baby is looing to be 8lbs 10oz and has a 13.9" head. I really am hoping if the weight is accurate (and since its been this size on multiple ultrasounds i have a feeling it is) that he comes at 37 weeks!! Here are some of the ultrasound pictures from today:

Here's hoping he does come a bit early at the rate he is growing! What a healthy boy you have!

new update:
Had another growth check today and baby at 37.5 weeks is now measuring 9lbs! His legs are measuring 40 weeks, his stomach is measuring 41 weeks and his head is measuring 42 weeks.

Wow, I hope the reason my doctor hasn't given a weight estimate isn't because my LO is huge
All mine said was "very big baby" but I couldn't tell whether he was just saying it as a comforting thing, or I have a huge baby.

Sorry to the original poster, didn't mean to post off topic btw.

I hope you go into labour soon so you get the natural birth you want :) Bubs looks so cute, such cute lips. My son also had the pouty lips and still does, i love them.

I had to have growth scans cos my son was small, born at 40+5 weighing 6pounds 4 ounces. So this time im having a growth scan in May to see how my lo is doing, she is already smaller then average but i hope i get good news.
