Weird question, I know cos' I'm dying to start pre-natal care BUT here's my dilemma:

I was 6 weeks away from my first IVF+ICSI consultation (10th Aug) when I found out I was pregnant. I got pregnant naturally after 3 years of TTCing.

I'm paranoid that I might miscarry so I don't want tell my doctor cos' she may cancel my IVF appointment.

Am I missing out on important healthcare by not telling my doctor?

I was going to wait until 5th August - by then I'll be about 10 weeks along, to tell them so they can give my appointment to someone else.

Am I being too scheming and selfish?

Any advice?

first off u need to be taking folic acid which u can buy i think from health food shops, but this is what the doctor would give u.

by 9 weeks u should be seeing your mw for the first time in order to start ur notes and book getting ur 12 week scan.

the longer u leave it, the longer u might have to wait for ur first scan.
id think they will cancel ur appointment due to already being pregnant, but if ur scared of a mc n losing ur place this is something u can only sort out with ur doctor.

there are lots of other ppl waitin for appoinments that arent lucky enough to get pregnant naturaly like u have.

but a huge congrats on gettin ur bfp and good luck xxx

usually you're supposed to tell at around 8 weeks so they can refer you to a hospital and get your 12week scan set up. If you tell them late, you won't really 'miss out' on anything other than have a late first scan.

if something does go wrong, will they allow you to do an IVF treatment so soon after?

congrats :)

Have been taking folic acid for 3 years now, as one is supposed to while TTCing.

Ok thanks - if I'm fortunate enough to carry through till August, I'll definitely cancel my appointment 5 days early because they're very good about re-allocating appointments to those waiting.

Thanks hun, my August appointment was just the first consultation. I wasn't expecting treatment till about November as they still have to do a bunch of tests.

I got pg while seeing a fertility specialist, I cancelled my next appointment which was quite lucky for me as I miscarried and was then able to proceed with my fertility appointments with them none the wiser.

I would take care in telling the specialists you are pg as there is a very real risk that should you need their assistance in the future it will not be forthcoming as you got pg on your own even if it wasn't successful.

I really wouldn't worry about 'being selfish' - it's totally understandable that you'd be nervous about mc and losing appointment. Do what feels right to you and don't let pious judgements from others affect your decision hun

Thank you. I think I'm going to hold off because I had 4 days of light brown spotting this past week.

I press my boobs several times a day to check if they still hurt - if they do, I'm overjoyed. I'm paranoid about waking up one morning and all my symptoms disappearing. Been reading too many sad endings to pregnancies.

i had a bleed at 6 weeks pregnant, i was scared sh*tless but everything was fine, they cudnt explain the bleed and it lasted about a week.

its expected to be nervous, being pregnant is a very scary time

If you have a private scan at say ten weeks, you can be pretty certain that Bubs will be fine and then you can cancel your FS appointment and book in with your GP! You can always say that you didn't realise you were pregnant, after all, who'd have thunk it!

I think after three years, a little deception as insurance is FINE. And someone will be on the waiting list who will be totally stoked to be bumped up!

Thanks :) that really helps :hugs:

Well here's an update!

I get a call from the head-GP at the clinic where I'm registered, at 8 pm last night.

She says she received a copy of the scan I had last week at the nearby hospital's Early Pregnancy Unit (not sure if I mentioned it to you girls here before, but I went into the EPU last Thursday because I started spotting)!

So now my clinic knows. The GP was obviously happy for me and has asked me to come in for my check-up and a referral so I can go on to midwife-led care. Exciting!

I have a feeling though that she isn't in communication with the fertility clinic I have my IVF consultation with in August so I will have to cancel that (hopefully, this pregnancy goes well) directly.

whoopieeee! My first check-up is tomorrow!

aww wow how did ur scan go?
my bleed with zane was nothing so dont let it panic you.
hope ur appointment goes well :D

My 6.5 week scan while I was spotting went really well last week, thanks! The spotting also faded away after 4 days.

I just had my checkup with the GP this morning. She took my blood pressure, checked urine for protein/glucose, weight, waist measurement and then sent off my midwife referral.

She says that since I'm being referred quite late, I might have a 13 or 14 week scan rather than 12 week. I guess I'm ok with that.

it doesnt matter if ur scans abit late but i no ule be dying to see baby.

i had my first scan at 6 weeks then again at 12 and omg the difference is amazing. from a little flicker to a full grown baby.

zane was sucking his fingers in his 12 wk scan, i saw him moving it was so weird that i cud see him but not feel it.

im so excited for you :D if u cant tell hahaha

Awww, thanks :)

You're right I'll be dying to see the baby - if that happens I'll go into the walk-in EPU in my area and hopefully they'll indulge me!
