So we're going to the states for three weeks to visit DH's US family and introduce DS who is 4 months old. We're taking our car seat and whilst it CAN be put in with a seatbelt, it's a faff, I'm not very confident with it and I don't feel it's as safe (I don't want to start a big row about that... many people have said belted seats are just as safe, but Isofix is my personal preference).

My father-in-law gives us use of his Kia while we're there, and I know it has the Latch system bars (colour me surprised because it's a heap of junk!). I've read that the systems are pretty similar, so my question is does anybody know if my car seat base will be able to attach to the Latch system fixtures? I'd really prefer to take it and use it, but it's heavy and quite big, so if I'm not going to be able to put it in the car there are other things that could fill that space (like clothes for me... that would be nice!).

Thanks in advance xxx

I actually don't know, so sorry, not much help actually answering your question. My mum also lives in the U.S. but her car has isofix, which is the same as ours. My suggestion would be though if you can't find a suitable way to use your own car seat is that there are lots of companies in the U.S. that hire out baby equipment (car seats, push chairs, etc.) for travel. So you just reserve a car seat that would fit his car and they ship it out to him before you arrive, then you ship it back. It's actually really affordable and it's something we have looked in to for when we visit my mum. So that's an option if you really don't want to travel with your car seat. The only downside is they are mostly FF (we use ERF at home), and I struggled to find many ERF seats to hire, but if you would use FF anyway, it's pretty easy to get your hands on one.

Would it be possible for your ILs to pick up a cheap second hand base that would fit their car and your seat? That way you don't have to cart your base over there, as it's so heavy I imagine you'd end up paying excess baggage to take it over too.

Yes, you can use it. LATCH is the same thing. Hope you have a great trip. :flower:
