Hello girls

I'm new here - been lurking for a while but only feeling confident enough to post now that I have reached 2nd tri.

I was wondering if any of you have purchased a doppler and if so how do you find it. I swore I wouldn't get one of these as I knew I would worry myself if I did and then couldn't find the heartbeat, but caved in at the weekend and got an AngelSounds one. Then the inevitable happened and I couldn't find hb! Had a GP appt this morning and it took her about 5 mins to find it with a machine that is obviously of much better quality so I felt a bit better about not being able to get it at home, but now I've got it sitting here and am a bit afraid to try again in case the same thing happens!

Is it just a bit early? Although packaging says it should work from 12 weeks...I KNEW this would happen!!

i had an angel sounds one and couldnt get on with it i got a doppler from ebay for 40pounds and wholely recomend them

Had a doctor's appointment last week and the doctor could not find the heartbeat. The next day, the doppler I ordered from Ebay arrived *HI-bebe doppler*.

I tried twice but couldn't find the heartbeat. For now, I've put it away until next week.

Often times, 12 weeks is really early to detect the heartbeat.

Don't stress about it, put it away for a week and try again :)

The good thing is, your doctor found it :)

BTW, I went back in my pregnancy journals of my first two pregnancies. The doctor detected the heartbeats at 13 weeks but they were very faint. By 17 weeks, they were beating strong :)

They can cause more worry if your not used to using them. Try not to panic if you can't locate baby - Most Midwives won't use a doppler before 16 weeks because before then its really common NOT to be able to locate the H/B, especially with heavier Mommy's.

Just remember that you will find baby's heartbeat very low down, usually at your gestation, just below hip level, almost in your lady garden!
-Try and make sure you have a full bladder too, that will help.

Bought my Angelsounds 3 weeks ago, but have been too scared to test it for the reason you say. Got a 16wk appointment next week, so wont before then, but this whole time I've been like:muaha:

Ive got an angel sounds one and it works perfectly

The angelsounds one doesn't work very well until about 20wks. I have a regular med-grade doppler and that was working around 12wks, but I don't even use it anymore...now that I feel her kicking I'm sure she's in there still! I'm sure it'll start picking stuff up soon! Congrats!

I had the angelsounds one too and never had any real problems with it as long as I used it with conductive gel. I think I must have been about 17 weeks when I bought it though so baby was easier to find.

It can be hard to find that early. It would sometimes take me ages, so try not to worry.

Thank you all for the reassurance. I gave in and had another go - and found it this time! RachieH, thanks for the advice - you were right, it was a lot lower than I expected. Tried it just once more when dh came in from work so he could hear it, but will put it away now and check once per week I think after this.

Its mostly for those middle weeks - when early pg symptoms start to subside but not far enough along to feel any movement. Can't wait for that bit!

I was just going to suggest using it really low down, helps using the gel too.

I have an angelsounds and have never had a problem finding its heart beat. I was surprised when i first got mine how low down you have to go with it. I find my baby seems to sit more on one side too!

i brought a doppler well hired it 9.99 a month. easy to use would recomend to you all. although did have some interference from mobile the other day and my son is now convinced that the baby said hello to him - soooo funny ;)x
