Using a fan near babies?

We always used a fan in LO's room- for air ciculation and to keep the room temp regulated... based on something we read right after LO was born.

At first, we placed the fan (tilted down) right next to her crib- so the air blew under crib. Then we moved it to the wall farthest away from LO- but when we found out she had allergies, we got an allergen fan that blows the air straight up. So it's close to her crib- but never blowing right on her. I bet a little oscillating fan in the middle of the room but facing away from where LO sleeps would be perfect :)

It's very hot here right now and my baby has been sleeping under a ceiling fan all summer. I haven't been concerned.

I have an oscillating fan on all day almost when its hot and it points at LO for a moment or two, i'm not concerned about it.

We've used one during the really hot days in our daughter's room. It's not pointed directly at her instead facing practically away, it's on the lowest setting and depending on how hot it stays later we'll decide whether to keep it on all night or not.

There is one on the highest speed right next to my LO as I type! Pointing away from her though, not oscillating. It is boiling here today so need it on. Plus it has helped lull her to sleep in her swing I think so it's going to be on more often :haha:

I've used one in the living room since LO came home from the hospital as I was recovering from pre-eclampsia and sweating loads -- I then read it was recommended/suggested as a SIDS precaution, and I have within a few feet of the couch, but not directly on LO. In the US, we used oscillating ceiling fans most of the time, so for me, having a fan on is normal (My Irish husband thinks it is a little strange, tho)....

best wishes

I have a fan in babies room thats on osolation its tilted more towards the ceiling than towards her crib, but occasionally the air does blow on her. If they are dressed good, it wont bother them. This heat is horrible, here too. Muslin blankets to swaddle and cloth diapers have been my life saver. Already had a baby case of heatrash :(.

why cant a fan blow directly on a baby?

i have a fan blowing on him all night long when its 40 degrees as well as during the day when he naps on me we have a fan pointing right at us

I think it might have to do with air circulation but that's just a guess.

Last summer my DS was still a newborn and slept in our room in his own bassinet at the foot of our bed. We had an awful heat wave with no air-conditioning. We had our ceiling fan on as well as an oscillating fan. Since he was still so little I kept the fan in behind his bassinet so it never blew directly on him but the fan was able to make the whole room cooler.

Now this summer we're in a new house that only has a room air conditioner in the living room so his nursery has its own oscillating fan. It's smaller and less powerful than ours. I have it going all day and night. As DS is older I'm not as worried about it blowing on him for a few seconds. Besides, his blankie (that he can't sleep without) is a thick fleece so he won't get too cold.
