My LB is 6 weeks old and breastfed exclusively apart from the last feed in evening when my husband gives a bottle.

He's been suffering with colic last week, we started using colief and things had improved & he had several days with no wind issues! Yesterday we were at MIL's who seems obsessed with him having bottles, so that he's not on me draining me all day, & also using a dummy as some of the time he's just comfort sucking.

I'm not keen on dummies but think they have their place if desperate, however he's always refused to take them anyway. I bought some cheap "cherry" ones to try next time & MIL gave it to him yesterday. He sucked away & fell asleep with it. A bit later after a feed he started getting grizzly so she stuck the dummy in & after 10 mins or so he fell asleep again. I wasn't happy the 2nd time around as no one even tried to sooth him & I also thought he was still hungry.

He prob used the dummy for about an hour altogether. When we got home I fed him, but he was windy & wouldn't latch properly & didn't take much. Then he had his bedtime bottle, and only took 2oz although some nights he does only want a little bit to top him up.

He woke in the night at 3:30 which is fairly normal. I don't think he was latching properly however because I could hear a lot of wind in him & he seemed uncomfy. I took him off to wind him & he bought back all of the milk down my back & in my hair, I was soaked. I was only saying earlier in the day to my husband how during night feeds he hardly ever spits up, not even a drop! So I changed him & fed again but he still didn't seem to feed properly. In total it took me over 1.5hours to settle him back for bed, usually takes less than 30mins!

This morning he woke up screaming which isn't normal & he's just fed what seems to be normal.

My question is do you think this could be related to the use of the dummy? Even though it was just a short time? Or is it a co-incidence & perhaps he just collicky?

I've never heard of a dummy making a baby sick before so maybe he was just a bit poorly. It sounds like everything is going normally and you're doing a great job. Many babies never get into a good sleep routine.....mine never has for example; but he wouldn't take a dummy. Your MIL comment made me laugh, mine is the same! Good luck with it all hun xxx

Babies change soo much in their routine I wouldnt worry too much in that regard.

As for winding- yup! some burps are that bad they bring up an awful lot. (I would keep an eye on the puking if it was a lot of projectile vomiting and he wasnt gaining etc).

But it sounds like your babe is fine, and go by how you're feeling about the dummy- if you think its causing problems take it away, if its helping you could keep it.
