Just wondered if anyone was in the same situation as me. My lb was breech, no one knew, before anyone figured it out, I was pushing, I delivered him breech, vaginally.

Been told my many, that Im more likely to have a breech this time and a c section would be reccommended...

Has anyone else had a vaginal breech with number 1 and had 'normal' vaginal deliveries subsequently? Or have you had c-sections subsequently? If so, were they planned or emergency?

I really dont want to have a c-section....unless really needed...but im starting to feel pressured into going down that route, so I want to hear other people experiences.

Thanks in advance.

Kate

Can't they do an US before delivery to check before you have to decide? My first was breech, but at 27 weeks so haven't been told that would make me higher risk. I do have a 50% chance of section because of multiple though.

Thats what Im hoping for, but my MW doesnt seem to think its needed...moron!

I can't see what difference it would make. Just because you had a breech baby the first time doesn't mean you'll have one again and assuming you delivered vaginally the first time without developing any major complications (like a pelvic injury or anything else that would prevent a normal birth), there should be no reason you'd be considered inappropriate for vaginal birth the second time. Heck, you delivered a breech baby vaginally, surely you can deliver a head down baby normally the second time! If there is any reason to believe this baby is breech, they should send you for a scan at 36 weeks to check (I know because my baby is breech and this is what I'm doing, it's pretty standard). After that, you can discuss whether ECV would be appropriate or if a c-section is your only option, but there's no way they'd even know at 20 weeks as it's way too soon to know baby's position. I would bring this issue up with a different midwife and if necessary, speak to the supervisor of midwives. As long as there are no other complications that would prevent a normal vaginal birth, a previous vaginal breech birth shouldn't have any impact on this pregnancy.

I can't answer your question from experience because I didn't deliver my breech baby vaginally, but when we found out that DS #2 was breech the first thing my Dr. told me was he could deliver him vaginally breech if we wanted to, but there was increase risks (like his head getting stuck). My first vaginal delivery required forceps because my son was large and his head was stuck, so there was NO way that I would try to deliver my second breech and risk him getting stuck (he ended up being 9lb 6oz and his head was 15in in circumference, so probably not an ideal baby to deliver breech LOL).

So if you are comfortable delivering breech and your MW/Dr is comfortable with it, then I would say the choice is yours.

What makes you think this baby will be breech? From what I have been told, having more than one breech baby is uncommon, unless you have some sort of physical problem with your pelvis.

my first was born naturally ( and speedily) breech at 35 weeks........my little girl was head down no problem. noone ever mentioned a higher risk? xx

My MW then and my consultant now, as well as my mw friends have all said that if number 1 was breech, there is a higher risk of number 2 being breech also and have all mentioned further scans towards then end of this pregnancy to check.....problem is, my mw now doesnt seem to think it necessary...her words were 'i'll know if its breech'! Well if 6 midwives and 2 doctors didnt know last time, what makes her so sure!

My other concern is that my first labour was only 2.5 hrs.....if this ends up shorter, i dont make it to the hospital, in could be delivering a breech baby at the side of the motorway!

You may be able to tell if you LO is breech. After my Dr. mentioned that he thought little guy was breech, I started feeling my bump and I could actually feel his head up by my ribs. So every time I was checked after that I already knew that he was going to tell me little guy was still breech :( You had no reason to check the first time, but you might be able to tell this time around.
