I'm pregnant with number 3 and due in September. My 2 sons were both c sections. My first was an emergency due to fetal distress and failure to progress, after about 2 days labour (7 hours active ) and after induction at 38+4 for babies health.

My second was a planned section, again at 38+4. I was really considering a vbac with him, as he was healthy, though in both pregnancies I had polydraminos (extra fluid) and they measured big. I also had a pulmonary embolism at 34 weeks and was put onto clexane and heparin, so my blood clotting needed to be controlled while delivering incase of haemorrhage. In those last few weeks leading up to his birth I bottled it and decided the c section was the safest option.

Looking back I wish I had given the vbac a go then, but now I am pregnant again I am really considering a vba2c. This will be our last baby and I really want to "experience" a natural birth all the way. I don't know if doctors support it? Has anybody got any experience or know anybody who has had one?

I'm on clexane again this pregnancy as a precaution and as long as baby and I are healthy I would like to at least attempt it. Do they let you go overdue after previous sections? I guessing if I hadn't gone by my due date then I would have a planned section?

I have ages to Think about it, I just like being prepared and weighing up my options. My partner is supportive of either decision which is a great help x

I've had 1 emcs. I've just had a meeting with my consultant who says at this stage I can decide either way whether vbac or elective but he did say that if we did elective it would mean that medically they would always strongly recommend third/future babies be sections too. I have no idea why though  I know it's definitely possible but like everything there must be lots of other factors that come into play.

Can I ask - how was your elective compared to the emcs? I am strongly swaying towards vbac because of the recovery with a toddler but the consultant was keen I didn't go over my dd. I was 9-days late with my first so expect to be late with this one too.

Some women do have VBA2C. Some doctors are more supportive than others. Its important to remeber that the cannot "let" or "allow" you to do anything....its up to you, however they word it.

Thank you Celesse , I shall look at that group.

BlaireUk, my elective was a very positive experience. It was calm, and quite surreal as I walked down up theatre, had a chat with the anesthetist and everyone in the room was calm too. My recovery was about the same as in my emergency, though I drove after 4 weeks and even cut the grass at 6 lol! To start with I couldn't pick up my son who was 26 months at the time, but I think the pain started subsiding after about a week and I felt much better after 2/3 weeks.

My emergency was not a great experience, everyone was rushing around, I was so drugged up and it was the middle of the night. I was also sick during the section (weird experience when you can't feel your stomach muscles). After that I was so worried about another section but the elective was so much better. I felt more in control. I hope you don't go overdue and you get your vbac xx
