Vbac and being induced?

So my last baby was born via emcs however I was awake an not knocked out. Now I have to decide (obviously not for a while) whether I want to try for vbac or have an elective caesarean. My concerns is I am diabetic and they will not allow you to go over 38 weeks so would be an induced labour. My main concern is that if it all went wrong an I had to have an emcs again but be completely knocked out. Would you just go for a second section? Also heard the risk of rupture is higher with induction. Has anyone else been in this position? X

I've heard some areas won't induce you if you've already had a section, I would try for a VBAC but if they won't let you go over 38 weeks that maybe a little difficult :).
Going along those lines I think going straight for the section maybe the better idea. A consultant would give you advise in what they think would be better for you.
I can't really say as my induction ended up in an emcs anyways and might have to have another section this time as my due date is exactly a year after my first.

I had an induction when trying for vbac but ended up with a second emcs with a spinal. Have they told you you'll have to have a general for your second section? I had a general with my first emcs and would not want to do it again. I found it very upsetting to miss out on the birth of ds1.

No they haven't but that's my worry ending up having to have a general anesthetic an missing the birth. I am under a consultant an they have said that I can look into a vbac but I wasn't aware of all the risks an even more so with an induction. I think I may be best off with the section unless I go naturally before 38 weeks x

If you are comfortable with it, can you ask them to let you book a section closer to 39 weeks, like 38w3d - try to push it a little to see if you go into labor naturally? Just a thought. I am 5w3d pregnant with #2 currently so not sure what my options will be but I had a section due to failure to progress after induction. Avoid an induction if you want a VBAC, but if there are serious medical reasons on why they can't let you go past a certain time, a scheduled c-section is better than an EMCS.

I honestly would avoid induction and talk to them - see how long they are willing to wait for natural labor- in the mean time I would help my body along too- taking walks, nipple stimulation, sex, stretching, squatting, whatever you can do. But induction carries a higher risk for a uterine rupture. If it were me - I would voice my concern and say hey look I want my VBAC- but not with an induction. But you know your health and history. I hate inductions personally speaking as well- I wont lie to you. Every woman I have known to have one including myself ended up with a c section. I'm totally against them. I dont mean to bring my opinion to you because it is totally up to you. My wish is that you have the birth that you want- and we are here for support XOXO

oh and look at this website "birth without fear" you may find women who were in your situation that have shared their stories. Really great site!!!

They induce at 38 weeks as in diabetics the placenta matures earlier an the risk in still birth is a lot higher. I personally would not want to risk that for a few days. I think I will end up with a scheduled section this time round. My last daughter was born at 36 weeks so maybe this time the extra 2 weeks may get the baby moving :) x

I didnt know that - the placenta matures faster... thats so interesting to me. I can definitley understand your concern. Child birth and pregnancy has always been a interest to me. Well - I agree with you - you know what is best for you! I'm here for support!!!! xoxo

Nope, the first was a very long induction which ended in a c-section. She never made it past 3cm the first time x
