Hi All,

I am knew to this! I recently learned that I am at increased risk of my child having Down Syndrome. While this is unsettling, I'm also very concerned about my hCG level, and what other complications it could indicate. It was 4.62Mom. Anyone else have a level this high, and have complications...or not? I am worried about placenta issues, IUGR, etc.

Thanks all!

On a more positive note, high hCG can also indicate twins. Are you very early in your pregnancy or have you had your first scan yet? I have a little boy with Down's Syndrome and my hCG levels were normal so you never can tell.

What gestation are you? My hcg with my son was massively high at 5 weeks. It wasn't tested again. He did have a birth defect but it was not linked to that.

I am 19 weeks, I think the measurement I'm concerned about was taken either at 12 or 16 weeks. Mine was high from the getgo, though.

They tend not to measure after scans confirm a pregnancy. I have never heard of it. I hope you get to the bottom of it and it is nothing to worry about !

I never learned the exact number but around my 18 week scan they did do a beta HCG which read as "elevated". The protocol was starting at 32 weeks I went for bi-weekly appointments to do an u/s to check fluid levels and growth and a NST. I was told that elevated HCG can indicate IUGR so that was the purpose for all of the extra scans and tests. My baby was induced a day before his EDD and weighed 10lbs3oz. So apparently IUGR wasn't an issue! LOL He is a very healthy 9 month old now!

Thanks so much! IF you don't mind asking, why did he have to be induced? (size?) It sounds like they will start monitoring me a lot sooner, did you see a specialist?
