Hi my baby is 3 weeks and weighed 8lb 3oz on Monday , he is on sma gold and according to the tin he should get 4oz feeds well this never seems to satisfy him and he's always looking for more milk when he finishes the bottle and I end up having to make him another one so I was wondering should I give him 5oz feeds instead or put him onto hungry baby milk? I seem to always end up making him another bottle about 30 mins after he finishes one and he only takes about 1 to 2 oz of it? Xx

There should always be an oz left in a bottle incase LO occasionally wants more so if LO wants more than 4 then make 5. If LO takes 5 then make 6. The instructions are guidelines only. Your baby doesnt need hungry baby milk.

Okay thank you I wasn't keen on giving him the hungry baby milk because after what I've read I think he's to young? He just had a bottle about 8 then oh made him another one cos he was still screaming and he took 1oz and went to sleep what a waste lol will defintley give him 5 for his next feed! Xx

Yes, try 5 ounces! They should generally leave half an ounce or so. If they're finishing the bottle, you don't know that they're "full". Feed on demand with formula, just as you would with breastfeeding.

I wouldn't go for the Hungry Baby stuff quite yet. Newborns have tiny tummies and should feed frequently.

My LO was having more than the instructions onthe box when he was 3 weeks, like ke29 said they are only guidelines. I have just been increasing the amount I give him by an ounce whenever he starts to finish the bottle so I know he is getting as much as he needs. Every baby is different so don't worry if you are making more or less than the guidelines as long as your LO is gaining a healthy amount of weight. At 10 weeks now my LO is taking what the box reccommends but I will increase again as and when I need to. :)

Yup defo try 5oz. I had to up DD3 to 5oz at 2.5 weeks :) x
