Well my little man entered the world on 2nd June 2014 however I have only just got round to writing my birth story so here goes!
Sunday 1st June, lo was being stubborn and was 12 days overdue. I was booked in for induction on Tuesday 3rd and really wanted to avoid it! The day before, (saturday) my midwife had come to the house and given me a 2nd sweep, she said I was 2cm dilated and very favourable. Immediately after the sweep I started getting browny red discharge so put a pad on and waited. I started getting a few niggles that night and thought it could be the start of things so I decided to take a bath. The bath completely stopped the pains and I went to bed preparing myself for being induced as I was convinced the sweep had not worked!
Woke up in the night and went to the loo, when I wiped there was lots of mucas, and I mean loads!!! Sorry tmi! But still no more pains!
Following day woke up feeling normal. Still having browny coloured discharge. My oh decided to go out for a bike ride around 10am and I started doing a bit of housework. Whilst I was cleaning the kitchen I called my mum, I had been feeling little gushes down below but didn't really think anything of it until I walked from one room to another whilst on the phone and felt a massive gush, enough to fill the pad I was wearing! I hung up the phone and called my oh and said I think my waters have broken, he said he'd come home straight away and told me to call midwife. I did and was told that someone would come round to check.
Around 2 hours later after experiencing little gushes and soaking my jeans, I was sat on the gym ball and got my first contraction. I wasn't sure what was happening but they were coming really close together so I got my oh to time them, 3 mins apart! We called the delivery suite and headed straight there. The car journey was very painful but my oh got me there pretty quickly! Lol
We got into the assessment room and I was examined. They confirmed my waters had gone and that I was around 2-3 cm. my contractions were still 3/4 mins apart but only lasting 30 seconds so they told us to walk round the hospital to get them lasting a bit longer. We walked round for an hour stopping every 3/4 mins and bending down, breathing through the pain. Crouching seemed to help me and walking took my mind off it a bit!
We went back and they had increased to around a min long and still 3/4 mins apart. I was now 4cm and they said I could use the pool. I spent the next few hours labouring in the pool. Breathing through the pain. I tried gas and air but didn't like it as i lost my focus and panicked!
Suddenly the pain got a lot worse and I was begging for more pain relief. The midwife checked me in the pool and I was 7cm. I said I wanted to get out and have more painkillers.
I had meptid and laboured for another few hours laying on a coach. I then decided to change position and got on all fours. Suddenly my contractions slowed right down and then the midwife noticed there was meconium in my water. I had a cannula put in and was transferred to a more medically equipped room. Buy this point I was around 8.5 cm and pleaded for an epidural. The guy came pretty quickly and did it and the relief was instant.
The next time I was checked the midwife thought that my cervix had become swollen and I'd gone down to 7cm. She got the doctor to check a few mins later who realised it was a mistake and I was fully dilated. I started to push.
I'd been pushing for nearly 2 hours when they said that they would have to help. Lo was delivered by ventouse 3 pushes later at 4.33am weighing 7lb 6oz. He had been facing my left hip therefore making it almost impossible for me to push him out!
They placed him on my chest and I was overcome with love and was so proud of myself and my oh! He was my rock throughout the whole 14 hour process and I couldn't have done it without him.![Smile :) :)](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
