My LG is 12 weeks old and is EBF, everything has gone very smoothly so far on our breastfeeding journey but I have a very very fast/powerful let down. As soon as it starts my boobs literally spray a few meters across the room and she can't latch on because it's so so fast. It's quite painful at times actually! When she was a few weeks old everyone told me this would calm down as she got older, but it's still the same! Do you think this is something I'll always have? It's quite embarrassing, and we both end up soaked when I forget a muslin etc!

This is basically the whole reason I failed at breastfeeding with my first son. Do you think if you pumped a bit off before trying to latch, that might help? Then perhaps the pressure would be less and it wouldn't be such a forceful letdown?

Me too! if my son pulls off, it goes everywhere. Luckily though, he is a greedy monster so doesn't happen as much for me. Although he does finish his feed in 3mins!

I've managed a little work around with the nipple that isn't in use, as soon as it starts aching, I press it in like a button until it calms down. x

I had a very overactive letdown on one side, it finally settled down when lo was about 4-5 months. Latching then taking him off and spraying into a towel helps as well as a laid back or side lying position. If you want to relieve some.pressure before feeding I would avoid pumping and just hand express a little, pumping could cause a bit of oversupply and make.the whole.problem worse

I had this with Miss 5. She did eventually get used to it.

I do vividly recall her pulling off while I was feeding in the food court once.......hit the man at the next table in the back of the head!!!! Luckily I managed to cover up what I was doing before he turned around..... :haha:

Lol back of the head love it! I still have fast let down at 6 months but she's used to it . If she pulls off it sprays so far it's comical.

I used to have a muslin around to spray some into, and also to wipe the baby down with :p

Same here, no calming down yet but I think as ds got older he just coped with it better xx

Same here, DS chokes still. Was hoping he'd get used to it by now!

Mines just over a month old and I'm afraid that because of my o.a.l.d. that he will end up preferring the bottle to my breast as he always pulls of and looks at me like what are you doing! :haha: anyone introduced a bottle and not had any problems? (Don't have a choice as I'm starting work and school back up soon.)

Same problem here on my right! When I have a shower my milk just sprays everywhere:dohh: my LO is also 12 weeks tomorrow and it hasn't got better but she copes better now, rarely does she pull off now(and get sprayed in the face:blush:). I press my hand flat on my breast as soon as she pulls off which stops it for me til she re latches. But that rarely happens now cause she's got the hang of it:flower:
