Holly has been a bit naggy this last week or so, refused food at times, been super clingy and just generally a bit off colour. I had been putting it down to the fact that she is 1 and she also has a couple of incisors on their way through.
So yesterday, she went to nursery as normal until 1pm. Got her home and she was fine, put her down for a nap at 2 and she woke at 2:20, crying. Proper tears, completely inconsolable.
I took her downstairs and offered her some milk (which she will always take!), she refused it. I tried to give her some painkillers and she was screaming.
So we went and sat in the lounge and put cbeebies on, she sat on my knee grumbling and whimpering. Within a few mins, she developed a tremor, whole body was twitching. Checked her temp, it was 35. She was coughing, breathing a bit strangely. Then she lost all her colour, and her hands and lips got a blueish tinge. I went into panic mode and decided to take her to a&e.
Anyway, after 6 hours, many tests, swabs, samples, crying, obs, etc - she has strep throat, which can apparently in such little people, if left untreated/undiagnosed, be quite serious. They kept us in the childrens assessment unti until 9pm, by which time her obs were all back to normal and she seemed ok in herself. Doc said comfort of home would be more beneficial than the upset of a night in hospital.
My poor little baby. She was so brave!
