Hi ladies, so I just got back from my doctor's appointment and it turns out I'm Vitamin D deficient :(. My blood-work came back from the lab showing I'm at 19. I believe a normal level for a woman is between 30-100 (please correct me if I'm wrong)..but OMG..i never knew the relationship of infertility with low levels of Vitamin D. My Dr. prescribed me 50,000 IU's to take as a 1/time a month pill to up my levels. But she also says this could be the reason I'm not getting pregnant. This was driving me crazy..so i went online and started researching this..and boy o boy..did I come across information regarding this. It's all over the place! With all the reading I've been doing lately :coffee:, How did I never read about THIS! Are you guys as new to this as I am??!! Anyway, LADIES!!!!..if your struggling with infertility, go to your dr. and get a blood exam, check your Vitamin D Levels..it might just be the answer to your prayers. I'm keeping my hopes up high for my BFP soon..AF isn't expected to arrive until the 13th, so we'll see. But either way, atleast I see some hope for me. I just wanted to share this video with you guys as well..incase your interested.

I'm pretty sure I conceived my first with low vitamin D levels. The endo did mine with my initial bloodwork with him and came back low normal, but I take a prenatal (which may have some, not 100% sure) and a Calcium +D with 500mg of D every day, so I'm sure it was low before I started that.

Very interesting, thanks so much for the info! Doesn't hurt to get more vitamin D in the diet just in case:)

I'm vitamin d deficient levels of 16 normal here is over 75. Conceived my second regardless but it can have negative effects on bubs so they've mega dosed me

I was vitamin d deficient and my doctor prescribed me the same thing..and now I'm taking a supplement...have been for about 3 months now...no luck yet...but I'm not ovulati g either...so I'm on clomid too.. crazy how much you learn about what can help with fertility or harm it!!

I was highly deficient for years before I found out what the problem was. I got hives in Nov 2011 to the point where I couldn't go to work...went o ER instead. Put me on strong meds turns out I was super vit D deficient. I wonder how much of my infertility is caused by prolonged, undiagnosed vit d deficiency. I also have severe arthritis (chondomalacia stage 4 in the knees,,,ready for knee replacements had I not been so young).
Mom always cooked organic greens & healthy home cooked meals...fish, chicken & whole grain, rice & bread. Mom's allergic (not intolerant- there's a difference) to wheat, dairy and chooses not o eat meat so I've alo learned many alternative cooking dishes to host dinner parties or the parents. I think my food isn't the source of the deficiency, i on't est he canned packaged meals the some ppl do. I think many things happen genetically & environmentally we are very sensitive.

Thanks for this important information. The best method of Vitamin D gaining is sunshine. When sunshine hits your body's naked parts, body makes vitamin D naturally. So women with low vit D, should take sunbath.

We live in Canada...and you're correct, sun=vit D. I'm out all summer long playing (cycle, swim + garden) and all winters long (ski, snowshoe + walking). Even on 2-3000mg/day supplement I was still diagnosed low. So the 50,000mg every other week helps.

Vit D deficiency causes some types of arthritis (knee chondromalacia), can allow cancers to grow and depression too. It's the most bang for your buck vitamin...well worth supplementing if you feel you could be low.

I see. I'm reading that Vitamin D deficiency is said to be the most common nutritional deficiency in the world. Three out of every four Americans are likely to be vitamin D deficient. And the health benefits of vitamin D are universally recognized by
healthcare professionals. And although the most effective way to obtain this vital nutrient is directly from the sun, you can also look to supplements. Finding this out now is pretty upsetting though. I mean Ive always been told, "if your trying to conceive make sure you start taking Prenatal Vitamins at least 3 months before tic." but no one ever told me Anything about Vitamin D. I don't understand?! Is it still safe to conceive then at this point? Should i work on my levels first? I don't wanna waste another few months :(

Thank You!!!..BabyDust To Us All :happydance:

I actually manage a tanning salon and we are very big on people tanning to get their vitamin D. Most people are vitamin d deficient, and the amount of vitamin d you get from UV exposure is impossible to get from a supplement.
Our salons even have a Good Sun membership where ppl specifically tan for health reasons: to get their vitamin d, to treat skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, ezcema etc.
I've been working here for almost a year and have been tanning regularly during that time, having my D levels really high, and I haven't gotten any of the common colds going around (vitamin d is an immune system regulator), also vitamin d is the best treatment for breast cancer prevention, but long story short I just got my faint bfp after one cycle of ntnp, BD'n twice during my ovulation time (not sure when I ovulated), so whether or not it had anything do with vitamin D, impossible to tell. =D

Congratulations to you!!!!!!!! I'm so happy you got your :bfp:. Either way, the Vitamin D you've been receiving can prevent something called "rickets" in your baby. (and sorry for the late reply)

There is extra vitamin D in my calcium supplements. I was wondering if they were good or bad for TTC. Glad to hear they are good!

I had a Vit D deficiency .. I take high levels of Vit D and have been for 3 months ... I have lost 8lbs and have lost inches in 'bloat' ... Vit D acts an anti inflammatory and most importantly it helps with the function of the pituitary glad which has Vit D receptors helping to regulate our hormone production ... also Vit D is needed for the absorption of calcium ... which is need for the production of good eggs. Yes you can say you get enough sunshine so in theory produce enough Vit D .. but sometimes are bodies just dont work the way they are meant to and need an extra boost.
When I was a teenager I broke my leg and it took 3 MONTHS !! to heal .. at no point did any of the medical staff think there might be something wrong !! Also I was diagnosed with fibormyalgia a few years ago and guess what .. it is also linked to low vit D levels.
Another curious thing is that I have PCOS, it is common for women to have PCOS and fibro together, and when looked at together they are both a common problem caused by issues with our hypothalamus ... connected to our pituitary gland (https://users.rcn.com/jkimball.ma.ultranet/BiologyPages/H/Hypothalamus.html) .. which needs .. surprise surprise ... sufficient levels of Vit D to function properly .. I am totally gobsmacked that more importance isnt given to this connection with Vit D !!!!! But I guess Drs and pharmaceutical companies wouldnt want us to be helped and cured by some thing that cost so little !!!!!!!!!

I never knew that taken vitamin D could be helpful in ttc, I know I'd like to lose some weight and I also believe I might have pcos. I go back to the doctor Wed though and should be able to really find out why no baby yet but I'm really gonna start taken me some vitamin D for sure, I will do anything to get pregnant! !
