I seen my health visitor today for my son's monthly weigh in and she mentioned that if I continue breastfeeding now that my son is 6 months old I'll need to give him vitamin drops. Does anyone have experience of this?

I tried having a look online but can only really find info about me taking a vitamin supplement. My hv isn't very pro-breastfeeding so sometimes I don't feel I can rely on her for advice (after she was pushing formula when my son was a few weeks old :()

As far as I know the only vitamin that you don't get is vit D, but if you go outside you can get that naturally. Also, at 6 months you start introducing other food, so once he starts eating and not just playing with the food, he'll get extra vitamins from that.

This is an old chestnut. Yes, the current DOH advice is to use vitamin supplements. Not only do I not know any mums who do, I just can't imagine why or how it's needed. In evolutionary terms, baby never got supplements - why would they need it now? It's not recommended by any of the BF organisations to my knowledge. By all means get some sunlight every day for Vit D - but better to get it via the sun than a chemical, surely?
