do you give your baby extra vitamins?
i feel really bad in that i dont!!

i got the ones from the healthy start things and he wouldnt touch them, i wasnt gona force it down him.

im starting to feel really guilty in that i dont give him any extra vitamins, but how do you know if they really do need them? Malakai does eat a variety of foods, he has veg alot, meat in almost every meal, drinks water, drinks milk, eats bread, pasta, fish, cereals.. so i guess, how do you know they really do need them an your not just wasting money buying something they dont need

I started giving DD Flintstone toddler gummies after a year. Fruit snacks are her favorite thing to eat, so she thinks it's a treat. :haha: If she refused to take it I wouldn't force the issue.

If he's eating a variety of foods and his provider hasn't noticed anything wrong, then he's probably fine without any extra vitamins. You could always ask his provider what their professional opinion is since they know him! :flower:

in all honesty, i dont have any 'proffessional' that does know him, apart from my useless Dr and she only knows him by face, whenever i go and mention his reflux (baring in mind i was there every week with him due to reflux) she always says 'oh did he have reflux, well then the treatment is different'.. seriously? arent you supposed to check notes anyway before seeing the patient? so the only people that know him is me, OH and some close family.
He appears fit and well, the HV said hes progressing fine (how she knew that when id only seen her that once) hes a good height and weight, his pink bits are pink, his white bits are white. the only one thing is his toe nails snap all the time, but we are currently waiting for blood tests to rule possibilities out there. oh and his hair is horrible all wire-y, but thats bcos hes a sweat head.

i would just like to improve his non visible health if i could, but i also dont want to give him something he doesnt need. hmm i think i will chat with a HV when i get him weighed

I haven't given DS vitamins except the Rx Iron he was prescribed for the time he was prescribed. I tried giving him some a few months ago, it was a powder you mix in yogurt - no go.

I don't think there is any reason they have to have them if they are eating a varied diet. Maybe vitamin D if you live in an unsunny climate, I may do vitamin D in the winter this winter.

We have since about 10 months. I think in general the recommendation is that all kids under 5 should have added vitamin D in the UK, because there has been an upswing in cases of rickets (a childhood disease caused by vitamin D deficiency). There are limited sources of dietary vitamin D (actually we get it from sunlight, but in our part of the world, we don't have enough daylight year round for most kids to get all they need, hence the recommendation). We use the Wellbaby ones. My daughter actually loves the taste of them and will ask for them! We also don't eat a whole lot of meat in our family, so these ones have added iron as well. I don't think you have to stress about it though. I often forget (my daughter reminds me though some days), so we don't always do them consistently. But something is better than nothing. It would be hard to overdose on most of these vitamins, so there's probably no harm in giving them even if you aren't sure if your LO actually needs them.

i was looking into something called Abidec. a family member has it for her LO and she said its pretty cheap at £3 odd a bottle, i looked at reviews and they were good, but how do you know if its good if you child is visibly healthy or are vitamins just vitamins they are all good no matter the name?

I've always given both of mine vitamins, just in case really. Just be a little careful of Abidec; I THINK that's the one that's suspended in peanut oil, so unless he's had peanuts before it's advisable to have some piriton nearby just in case. X

I give abidec, in the UK it is recommended you give them vitamin D supplements until they're 5 due to our climate but tbh with how much we cover kids in sun block, hats etc (for good reason!) it's worth doing even in summer. Vitamin D isn't as easy a supplement to get from diet alone, I do like the "just in case" element too, I've yet to hear anything about too many vitamins (always welcome to hearing otherwise) so I give them to both kids.

M has had a bite of a forrero rocher (sp?) and was fine, are they peanuts?
i think ill give ABIDEC a whirl thanks guys

I think they're hazelnut, but could be wrong. I expect he'll be fine, you'd more than likely know by now if he had a peanut allergy. I'm just a worrier so like to be prepared!

We've tried both well baby and abidec. Dd loves well baby ones and really doesn't like abidec- it's that bright orange colour and flavouring it's really quite tart tasting (yeah I tasted it haha!)
