Well today I had my glucose test, and the fact that I couldn't eat had a bad effect on my stomach. I drank the sugary drink and about 5 minutes later I threw it all back up. I went to the reception and told the midwife I'd thrown up and she gave me the most evil look ever, and said in a rude tone ”well that's it then, the test is ruined.” I was a little taken a back at her response, then her colleague appeared behind me and rolled her eyes back when the midwife told her I'd vomited. She was then very cold to me when she booked me in for next week. I was totally mortified by the way they reacted to me, as if it was my fault I threw up! Also has anyone got any tips on avoiding vomiting during the test? Thanks :)

the lady that was next to me to drink that orange lucozade, got sick as well and the midwife knew about it.. but they waited and drink it up again and she was fine afterward.. drinking lots of sugar in the morning on an empty stomach is not great, I did it a few weeks ago and it wasn't great.

I can't believe she was rude to you.. :/

Hey, I had mine a few weeks ago, only just passed and now get to do the delightful thing again! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

anyways, did you have lucozade or the stuff the hospital gives you? I brought in lucozade (it has to be original, which I hate) as I figured it's got to be better than hospital stuff. I too felt like vomiting and did a good couple of heaves. If you let them know, they will give you some water. I had to keep trying to sip water and that did help. Where I was also feelign so sick, they gave me my own room so I could 'lie down and rest' and I have to say I think that it helped. Well not laying down completely as then I get hearburn, but just a little. As I had my own room, I could move around and found it much easier to cope as I could sit/lie in all kinds of different positions.

Good luck x

I had to take it 3 times in the first trimester because I threw the stuff up the first 2 tries. Don't feel bad! It does happen....my stomach just couldn't handle it either. I'm sorry they were so rude about it! They should have been much more understanding! I'm sorry I don't have any advice how not to get sick...the 3rd time taking it I just brought things to do to try focusing on something else and made sure not to drink any water after drinking the drink as that made me feel worse. Oh..I did ask for a different flavor of the drink. I got the fruit punch to stay down as couldn't stand the orange! :hugs: :hugs:

Wow how rude, I'm surprised you didn't slap her(hormones speaking *adjust halo)

My midwife actually warned me before I had mine that some people make vomit so I should take it easy after drinking it. I'm surprised yours didn't know that some people do as well  However I loved the drink, I love sugary things, :haha: had an ultrasound afterwards and baby was sleeping

When i had mine i came very close to being sick and felt awful. I sat outside and got some fresh air and went back in 10 mins before i knew they was gonna call me. It does say not to leave but i sat on a bench directly outside. There was no way i was gona do that again x

Some people should really not be working in health care. I'm sorry they were so rude to you.

The admitting nurse I had yesterday when I had to go into hospital was SCARY! She sounded like she was yelling at me every time she asked me a question and was very harsh. I remember thinking, "I'm nervous right now and feeling unsure. The last thing I want is someone like you making me feel worse."

No tips on avoiding getting sick but here's hoping it was just a one time thing and you'll get through it with flying colors next time!

Fresh air really helped me. I just stood outside the front doors while the wave of sickness came over me. it took about an hr for that feeling to totally pass though. I had the hosp drink and it was warm, it reminded me of warm lactulose. i dotn even like lucozade but it must be better than that vile stuff, boke!

I didn't throw up (thank goodness) but I did get so faint that I could not walk. I had to sit there after and call my husband to come pick me up. I was incredibly dizzy and weak.

I hear a lot of women do throw up though so you're definitely not alone.

I find that the ladies at the lab when I had my test done we ass holes too.

Hopefully you get to do it again and won't puke. For my test I only had to fast 2 hours so my tummy wasn't upset. I woke up at 8:00 had my breakfast then went for my test at 11:45

Thanks girls, I feel a bit better about it now I just hope the same midwives are there next time. Here's hoping I don't throw up as well :(
