Hi everyone,

I know it's debated when 2nd tri actually starts, but I figured I'd have more of a chance of hitting people between 12-13 weeks here than in 1st tri.

Basically the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy, I had little to no symptoms. Mostly just fatigue and a little bit of nausea, but not one single episode of vomiting at all.

I should say that I've suffered from acid reflux for years. So I've been taking Zantac 75 since my doctor said that is safe for pregnancy. The reflux has been AWFUL in pregnancy and all day long, rather than just at night like it used to be.

Anyway, my issue is that even the smallest amounts of food now seem to make my stomach turn. I feel awful after eating every single time. For "dinner" I ate a cheese sandwich on whole wheat with some mustard, and immediately felt painfully full and sick. I just vomited for several minutes and emptied my stomach. My body continued to retch and nothing was even coming out, but I couldn't stop.

Yesterday I hadn't eaten anything since lunch and was vomiting much in the same way as tonight, and that was over 10 hours after I had last eaten anything!

I'm really starting to worry as I don't think this is MS since I feel it would've started weeks ago. I'm worried that something could be wrong with the baby, and even worried to the point that something could be really wrong with me. I might be paranoid, but all I can think of is a colleague of mine who had stomach cancer and had similar symptoms.

Has anyone had this happen to them so late? I am hoping it's just acid reflux, but again, I'm wondering if a pregnancy can even cause reflux this bad so early on?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I plan to call my doctor on Monday but could use some reassurance in the meantime.

Thank you! x

Maybe they need to give you a prescription for a proton pump inhibitor, heavier duty than OTC Zantac. When I started barfing blood I was given one but Zantac and normal antisickness tabs did the trick so I never needed to fill the prescription. If you're in new York then you can get safe anti-nausea tablets too when you speak to your doctor. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear you're so sick and I hope you feel better soon! At least you can talk to your doctor pretty soon.

I know loads of people who's ms has kicked in at 12-13-14 weeks ...
.also I have had very very bad acid reflux since I was 4 weeks... it's the first pregnancy symptom I've had and I've never had it before really so for yours to get way worse sounds completely normal...

it went away for me for a bit but is now back a little and I have to drink a glass of milk every night or I'll wake up and have vomit in my nose and throat.

I wouldn't worry too much about bubs or cancer or anything crazy just yet... sounds pretty typically pregnancy related...

go to your docs and ask what they can do to help more.

hope u feel better

oh also I should mention that on andoff I hhave gone through that feeling of eating and 5 mins in feeling full and having to throw it up straight away.

to be honest that was probably mire around 12-16 weeks at its worst still happens now but not as much

That makes me feel so much better. I can be a bit of a hypochondriac at times due to anxiety issues I've had since I was a kid regarding my health. I'm glad to know that this sounds normal. Thanks so much for your response and well wishes. :)

no worries hun... still ask your doctor coz it's not pleasant to feel so icky :(

I only remember it so well coz at 12-13 weeks I remember feeling like naan bread and a bit of butter chicken and rice... I felt fine that day (one of the only days I did) ...

hubby made it and I ate 5 mouth fulls and felt awful went straight to the shower and sat down in there and puked every last bit I ate ...

all I remember is feeling so so full and I'd only eaten a 1/4 of what I normally ate and I hadn't eaten much all day either...

as I said I still get that sometimes... not as bad .. but ye... half way through or even 3 minutes in to a wonderful dinner and bam your full and need to puke lol sorry tmi. ..

all I can say is carbs made it worse for me I think... rice breads even starting a meal out with a garlic bread was a bad idea so maybe steer clear of high carb stuff for a bit
hope this helps

I have bad reflux even before pregnancy.

But up until 11 weeks I'd only vomited twice (had bad nausea and food aversion though) and then from about 11-17 weeks I threw up a LOT!

So you sound pretty normal to me Hun. Xx

Hi, this sounds similar to me!
I had no vomiting until week 10 but even then it was only once or twice. I was also experiencing acid reflux which I'd never had before. When I was 14 weeks the vomiting got worse, and the pain from the acid after I had eaten was dreadful. I ended up spending a week in hospital :( I couldn't keep anything down and the pains were unbearable, they thought I had gal stones and was also tested for an embolism as the pain was all in my back.
The only thing they could put it down to was Gastritis. The Dr said that all the wreching I was doing had caused an over production of stomach acid and it had probably over flowed into my gal bladder.
Whilst it was a very unpleasant experience the baby was never effected. I was so worried because during that week in hospital I'd had morphine, high doses of clexane, tried all sorts of anti sickness medication, and didn't eat for a week! The wait for my 20 week scan was horrible but baby is just fine :)

I didn't throw up until week 12 - scary! I called my brother who's a doctor immediately and he said it's normal....crazy!

Thanks so much everyone! You've all made me feel tons better! This is my first pregnancy and I have no idea what to expect sometimes. I will be following up w my doctor tomorrow just to play it safe.

It could be the flu or something too. If you can't keep any food down you'll need to call your doctor as you could get dehydrated and too weak.

I keep food down all day, just have some issues at night. I have been drinking lots of water and eating electrolyte freeze pops to make sure I'm staying hydrated! :)

My MS started at 12 weeks and lasted until 17 weeks. The midwife said it is uncommon but can start anytime, so try not to worry.

I started vomiting at 9 weeks, but it was at it worst between 11-14 weeks. Ugh. I was hardly able to eat anything, the smallest amounts of food made me feel so full and awful. It started going down after 14 weeks, and I'm 17 weeks today and had a big barf yesterday that kind of threw me for a loop! But it does go down xxoo
Hope you feel better soon and try doing relaxation techniques so you don't get too anxious about it :flow:

Not sure if this is useful, but I was fairly sick from weeks 6-9, but then it eased off. Then when I got to week 11 it came back with a vengeance. Still sick now, it's no fun. A friend of mine was sick until 6 months, I think maybe you just had a slow start.

I could have written some of these posts!!! I had awful all day sickness until 12 weeks. I felt great for a week and then started throwing up- most mornings, and in the evening after dinner- unless I eat very light I throw up everything!!! It's so awful :-( starting to worry that I'm losing weight- my appetite is always decreasing! Going to talk about it With my ob next week will let you know if I get any good tips. Feel better ladies!!!

Could it be your prenatal vitamins? Mine started at 12 weeks and finally at 16 weeks I switched to flinstones gummies and the nausea disappeared!
