okay I knew I was right - my MIL bought Isabella a walker when she's over there and I thought I read somewhere that these are dangerous. But then everybody has convinced me otherwise. Why are the illegal in Canada?
you do know why warning labels were put on things right?
like "do not iron clothes whilest on body" ?
because someone actually DID that, everytime a new warning label is added to a product its because some idiot did that very thing.
Know this is an older thread, but just had to comment!
I actually went down the stairs in a walker as an infant (no harm done, was very lucky - they were wooden stairs ending in a concrete floor!). It was complete accident. One parent thought I was asleep in a different part of the house, came up from the basement for a minute, and didn't close the door behind them. In the meantime I'd woken up, and the other parent had put me in the walker.
I think they were banned because too many people used them like swings or playpens - put the baby in them and then try to do something else while the child is happy/busy. Only takes a split second answering the phone or trying to grab something from the fridge, someone opens a gate or door, and whoops!
Also walkers are very very bad for a child foot and hip development. They teach them to walk on the ends of their toes with their knees and hips bent which is not good for them.

Not in every case, my walker was thought to be one of my main atributes to not only walking with SB but walking at 8 months.
