Urgh did anyone see the girl on BBC news just now, she cant have been more than 15/16 and was going on about "you lot dont respect the youths, when you start respecting us, we will start respecting you, this is why we are doing this..... we dont get no respect"..... erm well what do you expect to get now?!?!!??! People arent going to suddenly stop and say "Oh this is ALL our fault, if only we respected the kids more...." WTF she didnt even know why this all started, none of them did!

Stupid little girl... probs never worked a day in her life and its clearly not HER tax money that will go towards paying for the cleanup......... respect has to be EARNT!

"We're dealing with a betrayed generation of young people," he says. "They have been marginalized from any debate about the country's future and they are making themselves heard on the streets."

What a load of rubbish! These people have no interest in debate about the country's future. If they were truly worried about their countrys future they wouldn't be out looting and damaging their communities. This has got nothing to do with the economic state of the country and I wish people would stop making these kind of excuses. Despite the financial problems in the UK people are still so much better off than the majority of people in the world. It's nothing more than a group of spoiled kids throwing a tantrum to get what they want.

Completely agree, i'm getting fed up of all the excuses being made for why they are out there rioting. Stop making excuses and start getting a bit tougher to put a stop to it!

It's shocking... Can't believe what i'm seeing this morning. Where are the parents letting their teenagers out on the rampage like this? It makes me so.sad and worried for our country that there are so many who just don't give a sh*t about what they are doing, who are getting a kick out of it and are targeting normal hard working businesses and destroying communities, scaring ordinary people - what do they think they are achieving. I'm beginning to think they should just send in the army to put a complete stop to it as the police don't seem to be able to...

I'm sorry but I had to laugh at this. Not sure if you're being serious or not.

How the hell can ones parent stop something like this happening? It's the off springs decision, and because it has spread so wide, everybody is acting as a sheep because they know they can get away with it. Nobody gives a living shit. At this moment in time, nor do the police. Really shows how useful they are, standing there with shields expecting people to back off. Out of control.

These riots have nothing to do with cuts, just another excuse to be anti-social degenerates. It's what Britain is.

That's my point re the parents - my mum and dad did actually have control over my behaviour. The idea that I could have been out roaming the streets at night at 13... They just wouldn't have let that happen and I respected them enough to mainly stick by their res even if I was sulking about them! And if I had gone out and got myself involved, they'd have been the first to march me to the police! Either these parents have no authority and control over their kids or they just don't give s sh*t. Not good either way. It's all pretty depressing - but then restores your faith a bit to see how many people following the riot clean up hash tag on Twitter. The rioters are the minority, even if it doesn't seem like it when you see all the stuff on the news.

My parents would have done the exact same thing - dragged me by the scruff of my neck to the police station myself.. but then, they'd have had no need to, cos I was bought up to respect others and to know my place..

I'm from Belfast, so I know exactly how scary these things can get having lived through them my entire life practically on my doorstep. Same issues been going on here for years, only instead of the race argument its always been religion/politics.
Same thing though, flares up every year.
I watch in horror every year as it all kicks off and I'm more than just a little tired of the excuses.
I work as a retail manager in whats classed as an underprivileged housing estate and with every year that goes by the youths growing up are getting less educated, more pampered, more violent and genuinely don't know the difference between whats right or wrong. Its sad that we have allowed our society to slip so low.
The whole world is in meltdown right now it seems and I think its time we started to look back in time and see where and when it started to go wrong.
Human rights? As many have said here its time human rights were right for the victims and not the perpetrators.
Bring back powers to police and all those in authority including teachers.
As someone who has to deal with high levels of antisocial behaviour on a daily basis in the work place I know these youths have no fear as there is no consequence, not from the law system or the parents.
Police? they get a hard time but again, I deal with them almost daily and most of the time their hands are tied as the justice system is such a joke. I deal with the police so often that I know most of them in my local station on first name terms and the frustration they feel for not being able to bring justice to the community is immense, so give the police a break, its society thats need to change in general.

All started in Manchester too.... Salford shopping city was kicking off, thats only down the road from me.... and all of the people on the news were about 15-18... not adults? Just "bored" kids, looking for trouble and to smash and grab their way to some free stuff.

I am sick of hearing them described as "protesters" on the news!!!! They are NOT protesters, they are degenerates thugs running amok and causing havoc because they have seen how easily they have been getting away with it in other places.... this has absolutely NOTHING to do with a lad being shot.... bet 90% of them couldnt even tell you that guys name if they were asked........

Why are all of these kids so eager to destroy and steal in their own hometowns? I've read the ages are as young as 9 years old. I can't picture my 9-year-old nephew looting, stealing, threatening people, and burning down buildings...WTF? What am I missing? I can see a few punk kids and gangs, but this is unreal.

On the Dailymail (I think?) site, there are pictures of kids looting a supermarket, faces uncovered, not bothered who see's them.... and they dont look much older than 11 or 12?!

Its a disgrace, if I was these kids parents and saw them I would report them to the police despite being their Mum.... someone is going to know them and how humiliating to have people see your own kid on the news stealing vodka and wine at that age?!??!
