homebirth was planned and we were so ready to buy the pool, but then i was struck with the results i was dreading and found out i am gbs +. was hoping to still have a waterbirth but midwife came over today and explained i must have antibiotics and have a hospital birth. i knew this was coming. Even though i havn't got the birth plan i wanted i feel super positive as i know me and baby will be under care 24/7. i can now finally prepare for a hospital birth and stop worrying about being a gbs carrier. since finding out the results ive had a huge rain cloud over my head and ive been getting anxiety and i feel like it has suddenly gone and i can feel light again and not worry :) just wanted to share my positivness as ive been feeling super negative lately. hope this birth experiance will be a happy and exciting one as all i ever hear are horror stories.

Well atleast you know where you stand now and like you said, you can start making plans for your hopsital birth :).

I'm glad that you're able to look forward to your birth, even if it isn't what you had originally planned. I too am hoping for a home water birth and due to a blood pressure rise I was unsure if this would go ahead, so I totally understand the anxiety you were feeling.

I'm sure your positivity in this will go along way to giving you a great water birth experience! Good luck :)

Glad you are feeling better about everything. There are lots of us on here with group b strep showing it's more common than you realise. It's nothing to be too worried about, my midwife hasn't really discussed it all except to say about having my IV antibiotics.

I have my antenatal with a private independent midwife and if I could have afforded her for my actual antenatal care she would Hace happily allowed me to have a home birth. However NHS won't allow us to.

Good luck with your birth and hope all goes well :)

im not allowed a waterbirth either so its a bed birth at hosp :( but im thankful i get the treatment i need. tnx girlies for ur support :)

Read in my pregnancy magazine today that aslong as you can have antibiotics via drip or injection, you can pretty much have any birth plan you like.

Good luck with the hospital birth and well done for being able to look on the positive side of things (pardon the pun - totally didn't mean that). I am GBS+ too and it would depend on the MW who is on duty when I go into labour whether they are happy for me to get in the pool or not. They say as long as the drip stays out of the water it should be ok but this is my 2nd baby. With the first I was wired up to machines to monitor the baby and the drip so they kept me closely monitored. Also, they kept and eye on the baby for 2-3 days so I knew we would be on the post natal ward for a while and the doctor would be called if there was anything they noticed that was of any concern (like he broke out in a rash but it turned out to be "milk spots" I think they called it).

All the very best. Take care and I hope you can relax a bit better now :)

Oh, and I think you are right too. It is better to know you are a GBS carrier so they can do something to help you and the baby rather than not knowing and hoping for the best (in my humble opinion). Thanks for sharing.
