Hi ladies,

I was planning on washing and ironing all of baby's clothes soon but heard I can't use biological washing powder/tablets.

Anyone know if that's the case? Don't really understand the difference between bio and non bio or how it might affect baby xx

I've started using fairy non bio, its for sensitive skin with none of the harsh scents etc.

I will probably use it for the first few months and then switch back to bio as you don't get that nice freshly washed scent with non bio. Plus, non bio never seems to be on offer at asda/tesco.

Interesting... I've just found this article that states that bio is fine for sensitive skin:

Fairy non-bio tabs are on offer in tesco just now, thats what made me wonder!

Does bio washing powder affect baby's skin or something? Maybe need to get out and get some of the non-bio tabs but I haven't got enough baby stuff for a full wash so was hoping to just use the bio stuff and mix with mine and DH's stuff lol! Xx

Some people (like my DH) are allergic to bio, but the scientific evidence for this is sketchy.

Thanks Lawgirl. Norther DH not I have any probs with washing powder. That's not to say LO won't so maybe do initial wash now and get some non-bio for future washes just in case.

Thanks ladies! Xx

Fairy non-bio and Comfort fabric conditioner - smells lush and keeps LO's clothes nice and soft.

Yep I just bought Fairy Non Bio this week too. Washed a load of baby clothes and there is a nice subtle smell off her lil clothes. Better to be safe than sorry I guess

We use all-natural, non-scented laundry soap on all our laundry. I especially prefer it for newborns because then they keep that 'new baby smell' longer instead of smelling like detergent!

I use fairy non bio, I have so many allergies, and I'm also allergic to bio so thinking bubba boy might be like me and be allergic too, so were sticking with non bio ;-) xxxx

I'm sensitive to bio, makes my eczema flair up. I also struggle with stain removing powders (they make me sneeze). What I tend to do with bad stains for me is wash in bio and then do a quick wash with my usual non-bio. For baby clothes I use the same method (for the first wash I've done everything in non-bio) at least for the first year or two. My daughters skin seems to be more like my husband's and she doesn't suffer any sensitivities to bio (she's 3) so I don't have to rewash, hopefully new baby will be the same.

I moved me and OH onto Persil non bio when I found out I was pregnant (OH reckoned he was allergic to everything except the bio Persil - changed the washing powder without telling him and shock! Not a single reaction!) so we'll all be using the same washing powder rather than using one type for us and another for the baby.

I also use Comfort Pure fabric softener. Try the likes of Home Bargains for washing powder, its a lot cheaper than the big supermarkets! The Comfort gives it a lovely fragrance! Love the smell of my laundry room - just a shame I have to do the massive pile of ironing!

I use bio because non bio makes me really itchy, I remember DS1 having really dry skin until we switched as well x

We use fairy non bio on LO's stuff. We got a 38 wash powder box and its lasted us 3 months with loads left.
