Hiya

My baby girl is 10 months old.... Up until now I've used a mixture of cartons and making up aptamil formula.

I make up a thermos everyday in the morning though my daughter only has 3 feeds in a day. My question is can I not just pour boiling water into her bottles and let them cool naturally. Then when needed can I just add the formula?

I don't mind using cartons only thing is the whole 1 hour then discard the carton issue. With making it up it lasts 2 hours and sometimes my daughter drinks half waits over 40mins then drinks the other half!

If you use cool water to make up the feeds, the water won't kill any bugs which could be present in the powder (it's not sterile).

Have the cartons changed? I'm sure that the cartons I used (Aptamil first stage ones) could be stored in the fridge for 24 hours.

ETA - They didn't used to when I used it but they do litre bottles that can be kept in the fridge for 48 hours too.

I just sterilize, boil kettle, leave to cool for 30 mins, pour it in the bottles, leave them on the side and add formula when needed. Ive done it this way for 3 mths now and shes been fine.

I do this in the morning for the afternoon and evening bottle then again in the evening for the next mornings bottle so they are never sat out for more than 12 hrs but I have friends who leave theirs out for 24 hrs and their babies have been fine too.

That's what I do too. I warm the water slightly before adding formula because my daughter likes it warm. I've never had any problems doing it this way.

I've done it that way with all three of my kids and never had a problem with it.

It's so confusing :(

I just want to be able to do this when I go out!!! At home I don't mind boiling the kettle and doing a thermos but I cannot carry a thermos with me as I already have so much other stuff to take!

I have aptamil cartons for use now and then and I'm sure it is up to 2 hours maximum. Worth checking the small print. It isn't ok to add powder to cold water even if you boiled the water earlier that day. I would not worry about being slightly over the one hour.

Just make your bottles up in the morning and leave them in the fridge then warm them up when needed that is what I did and how my mum did hers - much easier! x
