Hi,

I started weaning my daughter 1.5 months ago. Since then she has been constipated so I am giving her water with her meals to see if it helps. She tends to have some porridge and fruit that I spoon feed to her, and also a meal of finger-foods (different vegetables) every day.

How much water would be appropriate? Should I give it once a day or with every meal? She is breastfed and hasn't dropped any feeds yet.

Thanks. :flower:

We give water with every meal. 2-3 oz would do, I doubt your LO would finish that though. It should help out. We found bananas and avocados constipating when we were starting out :)

Thank you. I think it might be a case of however much I can feasibly tempt her to drink. I think the porridge might be the culprit as the finger foods are all supposed to be good for the bowels, e.g. broccoli. Everything in parenting is such a mystery to me! x

Yeah, you might find she enjoys it. My LO will choose her sippy cup of water over food every single time.

LO eats porridge every morning and has no trouble pooing with it but is a bit constipation prone, so who knows. It's all trial and error :)

Prunes, pears and a little fresh orange diluted usually helps for my LO

Defo agree with the banana thing, I have to limit them cause they really bung my LO up.

cereal constipated our little one for a while. I found that steamed and pureed apricots do the job to sort it nicely. After a few brief weeks of being off it, we tried again and its not constipating anymore. I think he just had to get used to food in general and his system needed to kick start. Hope that is some help.
